Tutu Tuesday #7685: Back to the Future - 10th April 1979!
Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu-loving time-travelling ballerina! This week, we're twirling back to the glorious 10th of April 1979, a day packed with exciting ballet-related happenings. Buckle up your pointe shoes, grab your favourite pink tulle, and let's get transported back in time!
(Flashback)
The sun is shining brightly on a crisp spring day as I hop off the train at Paddington station, my pink tutu swishing behind me like a ballerina’s dream. Today’s journey finds me in London, a city that simply thrums with energy, buzzing with the vibrancy of the theatre and fashion world. The air smells of freshly cut flowers and excited chatter - oh, the joy of London!
I head straight to my favourite spot - Harrods! Now, darling, back in 1979, Harrods was THE place to find everything luxurious, from fabulous gowns to, of course, some rather delightful tutus! I must tell you, tutus in 1979 were even more glorious than now, imagine layers of tulle in all the most fabulous colours imaginable, adorned with intricate embellishments! Honestly, it's hard to decide what to choose - the softest pastel shades, the vibrant bursts of colour, oh my! It's a veritable symphony of tulle and glitter!
With my Harrods shopping spree in full swing, I couldn’t miss the chance to catch a ballet performance. Now, the London stage is alight with brilliant ballets in 1979. It was the height of the “romantic ballerina” era, a time when graceful movements and emotive storytelling dominated. It was the time of the legendary ballerinas like Natalia Makarova and Margot Fonteyn - icons who made ballet even more thrilling and impactful. Can you imagine?
After all that twirling and dancing, it’s time to catch a bite at the Savoy. Oh, to sip a glass of champagne and enjoy the view of the Thames - London’s grandeur is something else.
My Time-Travelling Style Tips
I couldn’t resist a little bit of 1979 flair in my look today. I've embraced the seventies style by adding a few essential elements - bell-bottoms in the most beautiful pastel shades, of course, a soft knitted sweater in a gorgeous shade of pink and my oh-so-charming, knee-high boots.
I feel confident that you’ll love these 1979 trends as much as I do. Just add your personal touch – a pink tutu to enhance the outfit!
What's Happening on April 10th, 1979?
The world of ballet is certainly buzzing today. In London, The Royal Ballet is staging a revival of “The Sleeping Beauty” - such a magical, captivating production. It’s said to be filled with spectacular costumes, gorgeous music and of course, those iconic tutus! The highlight, however, has to be the incredible performance by Dame Margot Fonteyn. I just cannot get enough of her ethereal grace and the beauty she brings to the stage.
Oh, darling, if you're looking for a reason to get lost in a ballet performance this week, well, “The Sleeping Beauty” is exactly that. It's an escape into a world of magic and beauty, where everything is possible. It’s all about a magical princess, true love and, of course, the most extraordinary tutus.
A Pink Tutu For Every Occasion
And, on a more personal note, it's clear to me: pink is truly the colour of this era! From fashion to dance, to even a cheeky cocktail - this pink-tastic hue dominates everything! I believe we’re on the brink of a revolution, a glorious, tutu-clad pink-loving revolution. Let's be bold, darlings. Let's wear our tutus proudly, and let the world embrace this magical pink dream!
Join me next week, when we will explore another captivating ballet adventure. Keep on twirling!
XOXO, Emma
