#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 22nd May 1979 - Post 7691!

Hello my darling tutu-lovers! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller Emma, back for another jaunt through the enchanting history of our beloved ballet tutus! Today, we're swirling back to the 22nd of May 1979 - a date brimming with fascinating tutu happenings, of course!

Now, before we delve into the fabulous world of 1979, a quick note on my latest time travel adventures. As always, my trip to this delightful time was fuelled by a gloriously opulent ballet performance. Oh, you simply wouldn't believe the costumes - shimmering silks and feathers galore! It truly had me waltzing on air (quite literally, thanks to the beautiful leaps and pirouettes!). The stage, you see, is where I find the funding for my delightful time-hopping escapades. After all, one needs a little extra glitter for all those travel expenses!

Anyway, back to 1979. Fancy stepping onto the Parisian stage with me, darlings? Because on this very day, a captivating new production of "Giselle" graced the Opéra Garnier. The whole production was truly something special - especially those delicate, diaphanous tutus! It seems that ballet was having a real renaissance period at this time, with a captivating energy to match those dazzling tutus.

Did you know that 1979 was the year the Paris Opera Ballet began performing regularly at the Palais Garnier? What a truly magical time for Parisian ballet fans! Now, if that doesn't have you swooning, I don't know what will!

But wait, there's more! Right here in Derbyshire, where my heart will forever belong, we were treated to an amazing performance of "Swan Lake". You simply couldn't have wished for a more breathtaking display of swirling tutus. And believe me, there were plenty of them, fluttering and flowing across the stage. Just picture those glorious white tutus, all those fluffy, feathered layers… It truly was a magical night, and I felt as though I was floating among the swans myself!

Oh, and speaking of fluffy, feathered tutus… don't even get me started on the "La Sylphide" revival going on across Europe. It's like a ballerina's dream come true! I just adore the delicate, ethereal beauty of the tutu, so light and flowing, a symbol of the enchanting fairy herself.

It seems that 1979 was an era of breathtaking, enchanting ballet and those wonderful tutus! What a glorious time for the art form! The tutus weren't just shimmering, graceful decorations. They were works of art, conveying emotions, portraying characters, and truly dancing with the dancers!

Of course, you can't mention ballet and tutus without remembering the legend, Margot Fonteyn. In 1979, the legendary ballerina still captivated audiences, her performances inspiring generations to wear their own tutus, I imagine. A true inspiration to all, both on and off the stage!

But you know what truly made my day back in 1979? You guessed it - a divine tutu discovery! It was a little independent boutique, hidden in a cobbled alley in a quaint French town (which I will never divulge for fear of accidentally altering the delicate time-space continuum!), which showcased the most beautiful hand-stitched tutu collection. And guess what? They came in a spectrum of pinks - bubblegum, candy floss, flamingo! Every shade imaginable, and oh so pretty! This gave me some brilliant inspiration for my new tutus back in my time.

Speaking of pink, darling! My personal favourite shade - and truly a must-have in every ballerina’s wardrobe - is a dazzling, eye-catching hot pink. Think flamenco, think passion, think tutus that will stop you in your tracks! So go on, unleash your inner ballerina, embrace the fabulous pink, and twirl away!

Of course, you know that you can find my collection of irresistible pink tutus, along with all sorts of exciting ballet-themed fashion inspiration, right here on www.pink-tutu.com! And don’t forget to join me every Tuesday for another enchanting jaunt through tutu history, with #TutuTuesday!

Yours in twirls,
