#TutuTuesday: A Blast from the Past! (Post #7712)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, back again for another #TutuTuesday. This week we're taking a trip back in time to the wonderful, glamorous world of 1979, to find out what amazing ballet fashion was making its way onto the stage! Buckle up, my little lovelies, it's going to be a whirlwind of sparkles and frills!

This Tuesday I'm in Paris, where the chicest ballerinas strut their stuff with panache. As I sip my espresso (pink stirrer, of course) and gaze out at the Eiffel Tower, I'm transported back to this vibrant year. Imagine! The 16th of October 1979! You'd be stepping into the enchanting world of, oh my gosh... well, that's what makes time travel so fantastic! Who wouldn't love to be in the audience at the Paris Opera Ballet or marvel at the Royal Ballet in London?

Back then, tutu styles were more classic, embracing the beauty of tradition while still having a bit of cheeky fun with colour and silhouette. Let's dive right into some fascinating highlights:

The Romance of Romantic Tutus: Imagine flowing, soft tutus that seem to flutter in the air like graceful butterflies. The romantic tutu, dear readers, is the epitome of dreamy ballet elegance. We’re talking lightweight, diaphanous layers, perfect for expressing the passionate, romantic emotions often seen in classic ballets like Giselle or La Sylphide.

A Touch of Edgy Chic: The "Bell" Tutu: Think about a classic tutu, but imagine that it's been given a bit of a modern update. We're talking a shorter, narrower tutu, shaped a bit like a bell. This was becoming really popular in 1979. It allowed for incredible movement and showcased a dancer's athleticism, while still keeping that beautiful ballet elegance. I bet you could spot those "Bell" tutus swaying in the spotlight, adding a bit of daring to traditional performances!

Twirling in the Spotlight: The Tutus of the Time: Of course, in 1979, it wasn't just the style of the tutu that was making a splash. The colours were truly magnificent! Imagine bold, fiery reds, vibrant blues, and sunny yellows. It wasn't just about traditional whites and pinks, darling. Think about the stunning contrast of the classic tutu shapes in a pop of exciting colour.

Now, you may be asking yourself, how on earth did these fabulous ballerinas make their way around, their tutus all fluttering, to each magical ballet performance? Let's be honest, getting a pink tutu into the right condition for ballet is quite the undertaking. I have my trusted Pink Express – a vintage, restored steam train, of course! I have a particular soft spot for this method of travel - not only does it carry all my fantastic ballet wardrobe, but also allows me to enjoy the beauty of the countryside as I journey to the theatres, soaking in the atmosphere and inspiration of different locations.

1979, oh 1979! A time when ballet was a haven of grace and beauty, with tutus playing a starring role. Let's not forget, a good ballet wouldn't be the same without that glorious, graceful, oh-so-inspiring swirling fabric!

On my Tutu Radar: This week, I'm particularly excited to be in Paris and watching a ballet adaptation of "Les Misérables." If there's anything more exciting than a good classic ballet with a hint of pink in it, it’s watching those classic tunes played out on the stage in such an imaginative way. The costumes are going to be fantastic and a real tribute to a musical we all know and love! I hear it will feature an eclectic range of tutus, a celebration of everything that makes tutus amazing, and it is sure to be spectacular.

Remember, darling, life is always a little better when you're twirling in a tutu! What’s your favourite style of tutu? Where have you spotted some wonderful tutu moments this week?
