#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: January 22nd, 1980 - The Tutu Takes Flight!

Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to another installment of your favourite #TutuTuesday blog on www.pink-tutu.com. It's Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast and time-travelling ballerina extraordinaire. This week, we're hurtling back to the eighties - those glamorous, shoulder-padded years that truly saw the tutu take flight!

Oh, my darlings! Imagine - a world of big hair, neon colours, and even bigger tutus! The eighties were a wild, exciting era for ballet, and let me tell you, the tutus were absolutely fabulous. I'm positively giddy just thinking about them!

The Big, the Bold, and the Beautifully Bright!

I hopped out of the time-travel train in the heart of New York City. I had to take a quick pitstop for some vintage shopping in Soho! Oh, those stunning neon colours just call to my soul, don't you agree? And speaking of vibrant shades, the eighties were truly the golden era of colour for ballet tutus! Imagine dazzling shades of cerulean blue, lemon yellow, fiery crimson, and the most electrifying fuchsia pink you've ever seen! Honestly, it was a visual feast!

*A Little Extra *

But hold onto your tiaras, darling, it's about to get even more exciting! The eighties weren't just about bold colour; we were also seeing an explosion of embellishment! Think sparkling sequins and swirls of glittery fabric dancing under the stage lights. Oh, the sheer joy! And who could forget the fluffy feathers, pom-poms, and even bows making their grand entrance on those beautiful ballet tutus? You know I simply can't resist a good embellishment - a tutu should shimmer, sparkle and sing, darling!

Whirlwind of Dance and Drama

In New York City, it was an absolute flurry of artistic energy. I watched Mikhail Baryshnikov, a legend in the making, gliding across the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House! Can you imagine? He was literally a dream to watch in a dazzling white tutu!

The energy in the theatre was electric; everyone was simply enthralled! This era was truly one of passion and glamour for the ballet world, a testament to the art form's ability to move hearts and souls!

The Legacy of a Magical Time

This incredible decade gave us some truly breathtaking performances and some seriously stylish ballet tutus! It's hard not to fall in love with the eighties, those heady, creative days that set the stage for everything we see and love today.

Where am I travelling next, my lovelies? Only time (and the whims of my ballet shoes) will tell!

Until then, remember - spread the love, spread the tutus, and keep that pink energy high! And, of course, don't forget to subscribe to www.pink-tutu.com and follow my Instagram for daily updates. It's a delight to have you join me on this fabulous tutu journey!

Lots of Love,

Emma

P.S. My latest acquisition in New York was a pair of dazzling fuchsia feather boa, the perfect accessory for any vintage inspired ballet party - perhaps even a costume party at the Derbyshire Minersโ€™ Club back home?! Who knows? Don't forget to check in next Tuesday for #TutuTuesday, darlings!
