Tutu Tuesday #7767: Back to the 80s, Baby!

Hello, my darling tutu-lovers! It's your favourite pink-obsessed ballerina blogger Emma here, ready to take you on another thrilling trip through time with my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History blog! πŸ©°πŸ’–

This week, we're whipping up our tutus and heading back to 4th November 1980, a date that truly shines a spotlight on the iconic legacy of ballet! And who better to take you back than your very own, utterly fabulous pink-tutu-clad time traveler, eh? πŸ˜‰

The air buzzes with a special energy on this date, and you wouldn't believe it, darlings! The Royal Ballet in London, our absolute ballet haven, is hosting a performance of the beloved "Giselle", one of the most enchanting ballets ever created! Can you imagine? Me, right there in the theatre, soaking up the magic, with all its exquisite choreography, flowing tulle, and heartbreakingly beautiful story? Swoon

You see, this ballet is a real crowd-pleaser. This version, starring the wonderful Natalia Makarova and the handsome Anthony Dowell, is said to have brought a real, heart-stopping energy to the stage. You know, I think it's fascinating to imagine them performing! Imagine that kind of sheer, breathtaking talent, all around me. I might even blush just thinking about it! πŸ’–

Speaking of blushing, have you seen the stunning fashion on display in 1980? It's like a dream! We've got a whole symphony of colours bursting from the closets, bold prints that grab your attention, and just enough frills and ruffles to make a ballerina's heart beat faster!

You can see the energy of this fabulous era in London's West End, the vibrant heartbeat of theatre, and I was there! I simply had to check out "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", the Broadway smash hit that's making its triumphant debut here! This show was all about fun and cheeky humour, with lots of glamour, dazzling costumes, and big hair. Talk about a true explosion of fashion and colour!

While we're talking about fashion, have you noticed that pink is back in a BIG way in the 80s? You just can't go wrong with a touch of bubblegum pink! Now, I know it's easy to assume the 80s are all about neon and big shoulder pads (not that I don't adore those!), but even back then, the charm of pink was irresistible! From a vibrant pink jumper to a pastel pink coat, it was everywhere, just like the fabulous ballet tutus I wear every day! πŸ’•

What makes pink so fantastic? I think it’s because pink embodies all the delightful emotions that ballet touches: femininity, grace, joy, and just a little touch of mischievous fun! Imagine, twirling in a billowing pink tutu on the stage - nothing can beat that feeling!

The best thing about time travel is the fashion, though! Just the other day, I treated myself to a vintage pink and grey tutu from a lovely little boutique in 1980s London. It has delicate frills around the edges and a glorious, swirling skirt. I'm already dreaming about how I can pair it with my trusty pink Mary Janes - it’s a match made in heaven! πŸ’–

Of course, my time travelling requires a little ingenuity. How do I fund all these journeys? By working my way through the vibrant world of ballet!

Last week I was in the heart of Paris for a truly magical performance at the OpΓ©ra Garnier. Imagine, darling! The gilded decor, the plush velvet seats, and the sheer joy of seeing Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" performed by the most graceful ballerinas you could possibly dream of! It's an absolute spectacle, leaving my heart brimming with a mix of emotions: admiration, awe, and an intense desire to wear my fanciest pink tutu. πŸ’…βœ¨

After a ballet performance, a little shopping spree is always in order. Paris is brimming with the most adorable vintage stores and stylish boutiques, and I've been stocking up on a rainbow of new pieces - enough to last a whole week! You see, I simply can't resist a good vintage find! They’re a glimpse into the past, bringing a touch of history and an absolute ton of charm to my wardrobe! πŸ’–

Did you know that Paris in the 1980s was a major fashion hub? I’ve been snapping photos of all the Parisian women wearing chic dresses, flowing blouses, and sharp suits, everything from the bright hues of a blooming garden to the dramatic colour scheme of a decadent sunset. There are all kinds of beautiful tutus available there as well!

I must say, a pink tutu can truly make your Parisian day - even when you’re just window shopping!

So, my dears, remember to always keep a splash of pink in your wardrobe, even if you don't fancy a full tutu. It's a splash of joyful optimism and a dash of whimsy!

And of course, never forget your pink tutu, darlings! Let's spread the love for pink tutus far and wide, one twirl at a time! πŸ©°πŸ’•
