#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 16th June 1981 (Post #7799)
Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where tutus are queen and pink is the only colour that truly matters! Today we're whisking ourselves back to 16th June 1981 for a little trip down Tutu Lane! 💖
Ooh, the excitement in the air is palpable, just like the perfume from my favourite French perfume shop! The news is buzzing with the most wonderful event – the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer! Talk about a fairy tale! The whole world was glued to their tellies (no streaming services back then!) to watch the ceremony. It was like a ballet, you know, a magical choreography of love and celebration!
Speaking of magic, did you know this was also the day the very first tutu designed entirely from nylon netting debuted in New York City?! Talk about a revolution in the ballet world! Gone were the days of stiff and heavy tulle, replaced with a lighter, more flexible, and oh-so-pretty fabric that would become iconic for years to come. And trust me, it was a game-changer for ballerinas, allowing them to leap and pirouette with even greater grace and agility. Just think of the countless performances and breathtaking movements this invention would inspire! 🩰
I'm always in awe of the ingenuity of those who come up with these amazing innovations, from the designers to the fabric producers! You know I always say that there's a special kind of magic in every single detail, from the fabric to the stitching, to the shape of a tutu, which allows a dancer to create art in motion.
And guess what? My little journey to New York was even more glamorous this time because I got to take the Orient Express! The opulent carriages and views across Europe made the journey a delight. Even better, there were even more tutus to admire at all the train stations, with stylish women dressed in the very latest fashion. Such a wonderful inspiration for my own fashion choices. Why, I spotted an absolute stunner of a tulle skirt – it reminded me of the skirt from "La Bayadère", one of my favourite ballets! 😉
Now, my dears, I simply have to share the most magnificent thing: The Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris presented "Giselle" this week. Imagine the romanticism, the despair, the passionate movement of this story – it was utterly sublime! As the story of a peasant girl tricked and broken by a wicked duke, Giselle's heartbreak resonated deep in my Derbyshire heart. But there’s also an inspiring sense of triumph in the end, a message of hope that makes it the perfect ending to this little trip through ballet and fashion history. 💖
And that's a wrap, my darlings! Until next Tuesday, let's embrace the elegance of tutus and keep on dreaming! Don't forget, we're on the journey to make the world a more pink and fluffy place – so get your twirling shoes ready and make sure to show off that lovely tutu! 🩰
Love always,
Emma
*P.S. Did I tell you I went shopping in London this weekend and found a glorious new pink tutu? You simply MUST see it! I'm sure you’ll agree that it's utterly perfect, a masterpiece! I can't wait to share more about it next week. ✨ *
