Tutu Tuesday #7817: Back to the 80s! (and those big, puffy skirts)

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back for another Tutu Tuesday!

This week, we're jetting back to the magical, music-filled 1980s! Think leg warmers, neon colours, and the iconic big hair. We're taking a trip to London, England, specifically 20th October, 1981, to witness the sheer wonder that was the Royal Ballet performance of "The Sleeping Beauty"!

This ballet, first premiered in 1890, was like stepping into a fairytale, and, if I’m being honest, quite a bit of my wardrobe inspiration stems from those early Sleeping Beauty costumes. This date marks the opening of the Royal Opera House's new season. Fancy! And speaking of fancy, let's talk about tutus!

The tutus for this performance were a sight to behold - those classic Romantic style tutus that are just so incredibly flattering. It's all about those billowing, flowing layers that dance effortlessly. They create such a graceful, elegant look and are seriously a ballerina’s best friend. It was a true showcase for the artistry of these magical garments!

Speaking of magical garments, don’t forget to check out the amazing fashion in 1981. Imagine shoulder pads so big they could house a family of birds, bold colours, and oversized jewellery. Now that is fashion! If you're thinking, "that doesn't sound like something I’d wear", I challenge you to step back and have a little dare to be different. Think big, think bold, and think tutu!

London, 1981, was a buzzing metropolis where fashion, art, and music interweaved with breathtaking energy. If you're feeling a little adventurous, why not put on a tutu and a head full of bold colour, grab a few friends, and head out into the world? That's the 80s energy, and it's something we can all embrace. You never know, you might even bump into the Queen at a Royal Ballet performance, like she did at the 1981 premiere!

Let's be honest, even the Queen looked radiant, but maybe she was inspired by those amazing tutus! It’s just so beautiful, the ballet. A dance full of graceful leaps, sweeping pirouettes and, of course, a whole lot of tutus!

For me, this is just another day in the fantastic, swirling world of pink tutus and ballet. And don’t forget to come back next Tutu Tuesday when we're stepping into a whole new adventure, because, well, tutues and time travel are two of the greatest joys in life. It's like a double-whipped vanilla sundae with sprinkles, if you get me!

Keep those tutu dreams going, lovelies,

Emma xoxo
