Tutu Tuesday #7840: 30th March 1982 - The Year of the Romantic Tutu! πŸ©°πŸ’–

Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! Welcome back to another exciting week of Tutu Tuesday on your favourite tutu website - www.pink-tutu.com! Today, my time machine has taken me right back to 1982, and oh, it's a simply smashing year for the tutu! πŸ’–

Now, as you all know, I’m Emma, a Derbyshire girl through and through with a serious penchant for all things pink and tutu-related. 🩰 My mission in life? To make the world a more fabulous place by inspiring everyone to embrace their inner ballerina and strut their stuff in a pink tutu!

And let me tell you, 1982 was a fantastic year for the tutu! Think billowing layers of tulle, delicate embroidery, and shades of pink that would make your heart skip a beat! 😍 You can thank the glorious ballet world for that - the Romantic era of the tutu was in full swing, and it's reflected in the beautiful costumes that grace the stage.

To illustrate what I mean, I was lucky enough to be at the Paris Opera House on 30th March, 1982. Now, if you've been following Tutu Tuesday, you know that getting to a ballet show requires serious travel plans – it's a grand adventure, darling! Thankfully, this time, a lovely sleeper train got me all the way to Paris. A little champagne in the carriage and a good book kept me company, and I was good to go! πŸš‚

The Opera House, now that was an experience! The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation. I'd heard about the performance before I even got there – the grand Giselle. It’s known for its dreamy storyline and spectacular dances. And let me tell you, those tutus were divine! 😍

Giselle really captured the essence of romanticism – with flowing tulle and dainty detailing. And then the story - Oh, such tragic beauty, with an exquisite touch of magical realism. It was almost like a fairytale come to life. The dance, too! The dancers seemed to be floating on air, twirling their ethereal tutus, their every move perfectly synchronized with the beautiful music. And that last scene, the ghostly Wilis rising up to dance – talk about a heart-stopping spectacle! The entire performance was captivating, it left me breathless with pure delight. I’d happily hop on that sleeper train again to watch it. 🀩

Speaking of enchanting shows, guess who had a grand time seeing a lovely performance in London this very same day?

It was Princess Diana! Yes, you heard me right. The lovely Princess had been out enjoying the stage with a fantastic performance of the Royal Ballet version of La Bayadere, an Indian-inspired story of forbidden love. With all that dazzling choreography and dramatic costumes, I’m sure Diana would be impressed. I imagine it would be right up her street with all its grandeur and excitement. And did I mention that La Bayadere is bursting with some seriously gorgeous, bright, and airy tutus? πŸ’– It's another testament to the beauty of that romantic era and another reason to fall in love with ballet, even if just through its iconic costumes.

This romantic tutu look was a huge inspiration for the world outside the stage too. You see, in 1982, even outside of ballet performances, fashion had caught onto the Romantic mood. The ladies were wearing their versions of billowing skirts and ethereal dresses with a a lot of ruffles and bows! And all those pastel shades, well, it makes me smile just thinking about it. 😍

As for me, it wasn’t long before I found myself shopping in a cute little vintage store near the Paris Opera House – one of my Tutu Tuesday rituals! Can you imagine all those romantic dresses and skirts tucked away in their beautiful old lace and pastel colours? It was heaven on earth! 🀩 And then – there was this absolute beauty of a tulle dress in pale lilac. Oh, I couldn't resist! I tucked that lovely gem straight into my bag and promptly set off for the nearest tea shop! Afternoon tea in Paris was the perfect way to end this glamorous day in the city. It is the only way to relax after a hectic shopping trip and a fantastic show, don’t you agree? πŸ’–

But alas, my friends, the magic of the time machine beckoned! Time to zip back to my present and get on with sharing the wonderful tutu history with you. 😊 I do hope that all of you got inspired today, my darling tutu enthusiasts! So, what do you say? Will you embrace the romantic Tutu Tuesday vibe this week and wear something beautifully billowing and blush-tinted? I certainly will. My wardrobe is ready for a romantic revamp!

Now, go forth, my fabulous friends, spread the love of tutus, and let's keep the ballerina spirit alive and well! Until next week, stay pink, stay glamorous, and stay tutu-tastic! πŸ’– 🩰

Yours truly,

Emma.
