#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through the 80s! (Blog Post #7865)
Hello my lovelies! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, bringing you another fabulous foray into the fascinating history of the ballet tutu!
This week, Iâve been swirling through the fabulous 80s! And, oh darling, let me tell you, tutus were certainly making a statement! Imagine, if you will, neon colours, leg warmers, and those amazing puffy sleeves. That was the fashion world in the 80s, and tutus werenât afraid to embrace the trends!
Todayâs date? September 21st, 1982. It's a Tuesday, of course! What better day for a spot of #TutuTuesday history?
I must confess, I landed in Paris this time. Swoon! The City of Lights never disappoints!
Tutu Trend Alert: The Romantic Renaissance
First, a little ballet history chat. Think of the 80s tutus as a sort of a Romantic Revival. Imagine swirling silks and ethereal fabrics, flowing with the dancerâs every movement. This wasnât just about showcasing incredible technique; it was a way to express emotions, to let the audience feel the ballet, right down to their toes!
Speaking of toes⊠imagine my delight at finding so many pointe shoes being worn for more than just ballet! Think of it: sparkly pointe shoes worn with jeans! So avant garde! Oh, my dear reader, if only I could snag a pair to wear with my new pair of neon pink trousers, wouldnât that be a look to remember?! Itâs going straight on my wish list!
An Evening at the Opera (and the Theatre, too!)
I had to see the famous Paris Opera Ballet. Absolutely incredible! It was like stepping straight out of a fairytale, darling! The tutus? A symphony of silks, sequins, and tulle. A whirlwind of grace, beauty, and the purest magic. Honestly, I couldnât stop sighing with happiness! (A side-note to my fellow tutu-enthusiasts: did I mention how wonderfully the tutus swirled with every pirouette? Just magical! They even had tutus in black, which always adds a little mystique, don't you think? And who can resist a bit of black?)
But the ballet wasnât all! Oh no, darling, the whole city is a playground of theatrical magic in the 80s. From the most iconic theatres, full of glitz and glamour, to the charming cabaret shows, I even saw a fantastic mime act⊠all done en pointe. Honestly, the creativity here in Paris is infectious!
Shopping for Some Tutus!
Where to start? The shops in Paris, oh they are heaven! This city, my loves, is simply a tutu wonderland. Just walking along the Champs-ĂlysĂ©es, itâs like a parade of tulle. Every boutique, every designer, seems to be creating the most gorgeous tutus.
The fabrics? Heavenly! Layers upon layers of gossamer loveliness. The colours? Bold and bright. My heart just swooned when I saw a pair of electric blue tights! And then, to cap it off, there was this incredible tutu, absolutely covered in feathers and sequins, and⊠I think I must have gasped aloud.
But I was looking for something a little more understated. Not as extravagant. Maybe something a little less feather-y⊠more âday to dayâ wear, you know what I mean? My dream is to inspire everyone to wear tutus, even with their every-day outfits! I *must have that one, in pink, of course!*
Oh, and speaking of fashion, you've simply got to know about my new friend. You know what? She's a real-life dancer! (Although, how could you resist? You look at her and know sheâs born to be twirling!.) Her passion? To bring ballet to the masses! To make everyone move. She even started this street performance project! Weâre planning an en pointe flash mob soon â itâs going to be epic, darling!
Oh, and this post is my *#7865, did you know? And it's Tuesday, a great time to think about the beauty and magic of the tutu! *So keep on swirling, my darlings, and keep on dreaming! The possibilities are truly endless, darling!
Love, Emma xx
