#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post Number 7878!

Hello darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com! I'm Emma, your time-traveling tutu enthusiast, and it's #TutuTuesday, so you know what that means - a little journey back in time to discover the enchanting world of tutus! 🩰

Today we're heading to… 1982! 💫 It's December 21st and oh my, Christmas is just around the corner. Imagine, all that festive excitement with sparkly decorations and scrumptious mince pies – it's enough to make even the most hardened ballerina heart flutter! 🥰

My trusty time-travel device – a glorious, sparkly, hot pink ballet slipper that doubles as a portal – deposited me right in the heart of New York City. I found the perfect spot to perch, a cafe with charming checkered floors and the smell of warm apple pie lingering in the air – all while wearing a stunning pale pink tulle tutu that, quite frankly, stopped traffic! ✨

Now, tutus in 1982 were still a sight to behold! It’s hard to imagine now, but back then the tutus were a bit more… demure, if you will. No wild, fantastical layers or cascading tulle we see now! Think sleek, traditional lines – graceful and elegant, perfectly crafted for fluid movements.

You see, darling, the history of tutus is a real journey, just like our adventures through time! And even back in the 19th century, tutus were already creating waves, but back in the day, the first tutu, wasn't the frothy, billowing dream we know today. It was much, much smaller! More like a skirt that stopped just above the knee, freeing those delicate ballerina ankles for effortless twirls. It wasn't until the early 1900s that the romantic tutu came onto the scene with those longer, layers of tulle. You know, that ethereal floatiness that takes your breath away, perfect for graceful, almost airy movement.

That elegant look became synonymous with the ballet world for many years, and while things certainly did change – think about all the wild creativity on stage in modern ballets – there's still that underlying elegance. Even in contemporary works where those layered tutus are spun, folded and twisted in truly astounding ways! They're still essential, you know! That timeless essence of tutus holds that special charm that pulls audiences right in!

As for the 80's, you had tutus everywhere! In fashion magazines, at a few fancy dress parties, on stage - even a little on television – remember 'Dance Fever?' My, it was quite the spectacle! And in this period you saw the start of something exciting - a rise in awareness for tutu history itself.

This era became the point where even casual fans and dress-up parties started paying attention to that enchanting world of ballet. And darling, it is enchanting. You know that! 😊

Oh, I'd love to go into further details but we're going to have to leave that for another #TutuTuesday! There’s so much more to explore about ballet tutus: From those exquisite costumes used by the world-famous dancers to the playful designs popping up in boutiques. Tutus really do add a sprinkle of magic to anything – and let's be honest, they're ridiculously fashionable, aren't they?!

Now darling, tell me all about your favourite tutus, what have you worn? Let’s talk fashion and tutus, what did you get up to this #TutuTuesday? I can’t wait to hear from you! I hope you have a fabulously glamorous week.

As always, much love from your time-traveling tutu enthusiast,

Emma 💕
