Tutu Tuesday #7880: Back to the 80s with a Swish of Pink! šŸ©°šŸ’–

Hey Tutu-licious followers! Itā€™s Emma here, your pink-tutu-loving time-traveler, back from another fabulous trip through history. This week Iā€™m taking you toā€¦ January 4th, 1983!

Ooh, the 80sā€¦ itā€™s a time that calls for leg warmers, shoulder pads, and yes, gasp a good helping of pink!

It was a Tuesdayā€¦ naturally, I found myself at a ballet class! Letā€™s face it, itā€™s a Tuesday tradition. This week, I was fortunate enough to join a class at the esteemed Royal Ballet School in London, a place thatā€™s steeped in dance history! The atmosphere was electric - the teachers were passionate, the students were full of youthful energy, and everyone had the unmistakable ā€œballet glowā€ about them. I swear I could feel the history of dance swirling around me.

Speaking of history, letā€™s delve into the Tutu's journey!

Youā€™re probably thinking, "Whatā€™s so different about tutus in 1983?" Well, dear readers, even the history of tutus is ever-evolving! While the classical, romantic tutus with their flowing lines were still in full force, a new wave of modern ballet was stirring. Choreographers like William Forsythe and Twyla Tharp were experimenting with different shapes and fabrics, leading to less traditional and more geometric designs. Even in class, I saw some students opting for leotards with a looser, more casual tutu - a sign of the changing times in ballet fashion.

But even with this change, I was determined to embody the ultimate 80s ballerina spirit!

My outfit for the class? Pink, of course! It was all about a pale, dreamy pink tutu, topped with a bright pink leotard and matching leg warmers. Even my shoes were decorated with little pink bows - what can I say? I love to match my outfits, even when time-traveling!

But it wasn't just about the outfit ā€“ I was in awe of the style! Iā€™ve never seen so many different interpretations of a ā€œballet bunā€. The ballet students sported high buns, low buns, and even braided buns decorated with bows. It was a real mix-and-match approach to hair ā€“ truly an era of self-expression!

But fashion isnā€™t the only reason I time travel!

Iā€™m always fascinated by how history informs modern dance and vice-versa. What shows were the rage in 1983?

I managed to snag a ticket for the Royal Ballet's performance of "The Nutcracker" - what a classic! The beautiful costumes, the intricate choreography, and of course, the story of Clara, a little girlā€™s magical journeyā€¦ pure magic.

You see, seeing live performances is more than just an experience for me ā€“ itā€™s a vital part of my journey! The thrill of a standing ovation, the shared connection of the audienceā€¦ it all fuels my passion for dance and my endless curiosity about balletā€™s history.

After all, wouldnā€™t it be lovely to see the origin of ballet shoes, those perfectly shaped shoes designed to elevate the ballerina's steps, their delicate, satin sheen illuminating the stage? Or watch the development of the pointe shoes, allowing the ballerinas to seem like theyā€™re floating on air?

Each ballet show offers a new insight, a new glimpse into how the history of dance has led us to the beautiful styles and incredible dancers we have today.

Of course, no trip through the 80s would be complete without a little bit of shopping! I was utterly charmed by the retro designs and vibrant colors of the clothes - remember those leg warmers?! I just had to pick up a pair.

As for the most famous shop on the planet - Harrods ā€“ well, that was a must-visit. Imagine! Shopping amongst the grand architecture of Knightsbridge. This historic store always brings me back to the glamour of bygone eras!

I spent hours exploring London, admiring the architectural treasures of St. Paulā€™s Cathedral and taking in the majesty of Buckingham Palace. I even indulged in a cup of tea with scones (Iā€™m from Derbyshire, remember!)

It's so easy to be inspired by history - in everything from fashion to architecture, there's something truly unique to appreciate.

So, whatā€™s on for January 4th, 2023, you ask? It's the start of another week of beautiful ballet. So why not don your own pink tutu and celebrate all things pink and lovely? After all, life's too short not to wear pink and twirl!

See you next week for another edition of #TutuTuesday! Until then, stay happy and twirl often!

Love, Emma šŸ©°šŸ’•
