#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 25th January 1983
Greetings fellow Tutu Lovers! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back again for another exciting #TutuTuesday adventure into the past! I'm currently whisking myself around the globe, using the power of ballet and the wonder of time travel to unearth the incredible history of the ballet tutu.
And what better way to celebrate the sheer joy of tutus than with a special, limited edition pink tutu! I just stumbled across it in a charming little shop in Paris, where the Parisian ballet scene was really taking off back in 1983. They’re so fabulous I nearly fainted with joy. Imagine a vibrant pink with a dash of sparkling sequins, a floaty layered design, and a sweet little bow! Oh my, my heart is truly doing a pirouette. This tutu is everything, darling!
And speaking of 1983… where do I even begin?!
It's such a pivotal time for ballet and the tutu! I feel it in my bones. On the 25th January, 1983, the world was mesmerized by the captivating performances of Natalia Makarova. Her talent is a constant inspiration and her passion for ballet echoes through time. And don't even get me started on the beautiful artistry of the Royal Ballet, especially the glorious "Giselle" which had everyone swooning!
It's also the era of those fabulous ballet shoes! Back in the day, shoes were meticulously crafted with satin, sparkling with tiny, hand-stitched crystals, a true testament to meticulous craftsmanship. You could practically hear them whisper stories of graceful leaps and sparkling performances, just like a fairytale!
The stage was positively ablaze with color back then! It's a stark contrast to some of the darker, more avant-garde productions seen in the late 20th century, and let’s not forget the spectacular pink costumes that stole the show!
Now, back to our darling Parisian find. I absolutely love how the Parisian ballerinas of the time are so stylish - they've really embraced that romantic flair with tutus! Think soft silks, delicate lace, and exquisite craftsmanship.
And as for the tutus themselves? Pure magic! There's an ethereal, dreamy quality about the tutus worn during that period. Imagine fluffy layered tulle with a romantic and whimsical silhouette that looks utterly breathtaking on stage. Just pure ballet beauty!
Did you know, my dear tutu-loving friends, that this year, 1983, also saw the emergence of ballet "street" shows? The magic of ballet ventured out into the streets! How amazing is that?! Imagine ballerinas twirling amongst the cobblestones, bringing joy to those who've never seen ballet before!
My dream is to take ballet everywhere - the more the merrier, I say!
This time period also holds a special place in my heart, you see, I've got a sneaky suspicion that I'm actually a bit of a time traveller myself. Whenever I wear my favourite pink tutu and slip into a ballet show, it's like the present fades away and I become a part of the era!
Perhaps that's why my blog is so successful - #7883! I guess a pink tutu and time travel does give you that extra sparkle!
Well, darlings, that's it for this week's #TutuTuesday! But remember - if you're inspired to dance or channel the ballet glamour of 1983, remember, you can be the ultimate #TutuLover by donning a fabulous tutu.
Remember, everyone looks absolutely fantastic in a pink tutu!
Don't forget to catch me again next week on www.pink-tutu.com for more adventures in the world of tutus. Until then, stay stylish and dance on!
Love,
Emma
