Tutu Tuesday #7885: Back to the 80s with a (Very) Pink Tutu!
Hey fellow tutu-lovers! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, bringing you another dose of #TutuTuesday history. This week, we're jetting back to a time of big hair, even bigger shoulder pads, and a whole lot of pink – 8 February 1983!
Imagine the excitement: the thrill of the train journey (always my favourite!), the bustling atmosphere of the big city, the dazzling lights of the theatre…oh, it's simply divine! I love the history of the tutu and I'm thrilled to share it with you!
Tutus on Tour in 1983
For this trip, I've chosen a vibrant, hot pink tutu with a billowing, multi-layered skirt, the perfect complement to this fabulous era of bold fashion. Imagine, it would be fabulous to walk through Covent Garden in this beauty. Everyone would be staring at the flamboyant, twirling, pink clad vision!
Now, 1983, was a golden year for ballet, with legendary ballerinas gracing the stage and thrilling audiences worldwide. Just picture those spectacular shows! The intricate costumes, the graceful movements, and that sense of magic in the air... truly captivating! Imagine, I'd love to be able to visit a show in a lovely old theatre and be mesmerised by it all, from the ballerinas to the exquisite music.
Where's the Love? Ballet in the 80s
The 1980s witnessed a blossoming of interest in ballet across the globe, especially in Paris and London. The London Royal Opera House hosted magnificent ballets throughout the year. In fact, there is an extraordinary event being held on this very date in the calendar, an event of incredible talent and grace! The Royal Ballet are performing a double bill "A Month in the Country" and "Variations" at the Covent Garden! Just picture the vibrant costumes, the soaring music, and the sheer brilliance of those magnificent ballerinas.
This period also saw an increasing appreciation of ballet in popular culture. Movies like “Fame” and “Footloose” were inspiring new generations to learn and embrace the world of dance. There's a vibrant buzz in the air about all things ballet - what a perfect opportunity to share my love for tutus! I mean, what could be better than sharing your love of dance with the whole world?
My Dream Dress-Up:
My personal fantasy, of course, would be to rock this stunning, bright pink tutu amongst a crowd of glamorous fashion-conscious Londoners. Imagine the looks, the compliments, the sheer joy of being a beacon of colour and fun! In my world, pink is the way forward. It’s bold, vibrant, optimistic and it makes a statement. So, how about it, world? Will you join me in spreading the pink tutu love?
Let’s create a world where every day is a tutu day, where we dance with abandon and spread joy through the power of the tutu. Because life’s too short to take things seriously - let's all twirl, prance and dance our way into a pink future!
Remember, my dear Tutu Tribe, you can join me in this journey through time every Tuesday with my weekly #TutuTuesday blog posts on www.pink-tutu.com!
Until next week, stay beautiful and stay twirling!
Love,
Emma
