#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History – 24th May 1983 - Blog Post No. 7900

Hello, my darlings! It’s Emma here, your tutu-loving, time-traveling friend, ready to whisk you back to a time when the world of ballet was shimmering with style and grace. Today, for #TutuTuesday, we're travelling back to 24th May 1983, a date that holds some very special moments in the history of the tutu. Buckle up, because this journey's gonna be fabulous!

Now, as you know, I’m a huge fan of trains - I just can’t resist the romance and glamour of steam trains, or the chic elegance of high-speed trains. This trip involved a jaunt through the picturesque countryside of France – how charming! And after arriving in the City of Lights – ah, Paris - I was already gushing with excitement about the Ballet. I always get such a rush of joy watching ballerinas take to the stage in their tutus! They truly are the epitome of elegance.

This particular evening, I had the incredible pleasure of attending a performance at the Opéra Garnier. Can you imagine? This legendary house of ballet, the heart and soul of Paris's dance scene! And they were presenting a revival of one of my absolute favourites: “La Bayadère,” by Marius Petipa! Oh, I tell you, the costumes were just stunning - that iconic white tutu - so elegant and full of drama - really caught my eye! I practically wanted to climb onto the stage and do a pirouette myself, I was that entranced!

Speaking of tutus, I had to pop into “Le Petit Ballon” shop for a spot of vintage tutu shopping - that's how we do it! Now, this was the place in Paris for tutus back then, darling. Their collection was out of this world - I spotted so many gorgeous, delicate tutus just begging to be danced in. Imagine - I was lucky enough to find a gorgeous lilac chiffon tutu with delicate beaded detail! And of course, being a bit of a magpie at heart, I simply had to snag it! I'm sure it's still hidden away somewhere in the depths of my wardrobe!

And after the ballet, I just had to go for a delightful Parisian stroll, with the Eiffel Tower all glittering in the night sky – a quintessential French scene, indeed! Then I had to stop off at Angelina, my favourite tea room. It was just too tempting, with those exquisite cakes, creamy hot chocolate, and warm pastries. It's just what any fashion-loving girl needs after a grand night out!

Speaking of style, a must-see in 1983 was the Christian Lacroix Haute Couture Collection, which absolutely captivated the world with its intricate details, playful fabrics, and just a touch of extravagance! Now, you may think that pink tutus might not seem like the perfect choice for a couture runway show. But guess what? That year, the “Grand Palais” saw a bright pink ruffled skirt ensemble, teamed with a shimmering top take centre stage! See? This was truly the year to embrace the fabulous!

That’s it, my lovelies, until next week! Remember to keep it fabulous and share your tutu stories with me! And do check back next Tuesday for a journey to a time in Ballet Tutu History, just for you! Don’t forget - we all have the power to transform the world, one pink tutu at a time! Stay sparkly!
