#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Ballet History – 1983-07-05! 🩰✨💖

Hello my darling dancers! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where all things pink and tutu-tastic come together. It’s your favourite blogger, Emma, back with another edition of #TutuTuesday, and this week we’re taking a trip down memory lane to 5th July 1983! 🚂

I’ve been a bit obsessed with travelling by train recently - perhaps it’s the nostalgia factor, perhaps it’s just a fab excuse to wear a fabulous outfit and gaze at the scenery! And for this week's trip, well, I’ve picked the most exciting mode of transport of all… a time machine! 🕰️

Don’t worry, I didn’t actually build a contraption out of tin foil and spare parts from a second-hand shop (although wouldn't that be utterly glamorous?!). It seems there are hidden doorways through time within certain theatres, you see! The magic is found in the way that performance and passion blend seamlessly with the timeless elegance of a ballet costume. If you have enough love for dance, well, the time portal just kinda opens! And since I get paid for my ballet performances, let’s just say the money I’ve earned from spinning and pirouetting has allowed me to have a truly remarkable life – travelling around the world, discovering incredible dance history and of course, experiencing the most fabulous tutu moments throughout history!

What’s So Special About 5th July 1983?

Oh, darlings, 1983 was a simply sensational year for ballet! There was a truly dazzling plethora of shows, tours and debuts that you wouldn't believe – it was an explosion of tulle and talent that just had everyone dancing! On this very day, we were blessed with the reopening of the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow after its renovations, and the world was abuzz with anticipation for the shows that were to come. Imagine! It’s almost as if they knew a little Derbyshire girl would be joining them all these years later! And it’s so inspiring, don’t you think? Seeing the past come alive with such incredible talent, passion, and a dash of… well… pink, naturally! 💗

Speaking of pink, that evening in 1983, the Bolshoi Ballet showcased an unforgettable production of “Swan Lake”, which has been inspiring generations of ballet dancers with its delicate and poignant storyline ever since! Now, let's be honest, who wouldn’t fall in love with the drama, the costumes, and the music in such a powerful story of betrayal, loss, and the transformative power of love? (Okay, and maybe the reason we’re obsessed with tutus in the first place is that they make us feel like beautiful, powerful, swans!) 🦢

There was so much energy buzzing through Moscow on 5th July 1983 – people were getting ready to immerse themselves in the magic of the Bolshoi Theatre and experience the timeless beauty of Swan Lake. A special event indeed!

*And, Now for Something Totally Unrelated... *

Speaking of magic… I just can’t resist a little detour into fashion! You wouldn’t believe the fabulously pink new tutu I snagged this weekend! I know, it’s ridiculous – a pink tutu for every occasion - but hear me out, my darling readers. You know the rule! If you’re looking for the perfect garment to turn a dull Tuesday into a shimmering masterpiece, look no further than a pink tutu! 😉

This beauty I found is simply the dreamiest - I’m talking gossamer fabric that flows like liquid silk, and the fluffiest layers of tulle imaginable. Think fairytale princess meets ballerina goddess, and you’ve got a pretty good picture of it. It’s a delightful mix of delicate florals and dazzling, candy-coloured feathers - like a symphony of pure fluff! And naturally, I paired it with my favourite sparkling tiara for maximum fairytale princess vibes. ✨

You see, there’s something undeniably magical about tutus, isn't there? They bring out the inner ballerina in everyone, and they always inspire us to embrace the light-hearted and the whimsical. That’s what I truly believe about pink tutus!

Coming Up Next Week:

I’ve been dreaming up my next trip through the portal - I'm going back to explore an even more glamorous period! Imagine, more fabulous fashion, inspiring ballet debuts, and maybe, just maybe, a chance encounter with one of my all-time favourite ballerinas - could it be the legendary prima ballerina assoluta, Margot Fonteyn? Well, darling readers, I guess you’ll have to check back next week to find out!

Don't forget to tag me on Instagram @pinktutublogger and tell me which tutu makes your heart skip a beat. (Or better yet, post a picture of your fabulously pink tutus! ) Until next time, keep your heads held high and your spins elegant! ✨ 💖

Much love,

Emma 💕
