#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post Number 7937

Bonjour mes chéries! It's Emma here, back again with another instalment of my Ballet Tutu History blog. And today, I'm absolutely tickled pink to be celebrating this particular Tuesday. Because, my lovelies, this day in time - 7th February, 1984 - is a date absolutely stuffed with ballet and fashion brilliance! So buckle up your pointe shoes, grab a cuppa and a pink macaroon, and let's get whisked away to the glory days of dance!

From Derbyshire to The Big Apple - Via a Pink Tutu and a Train Ticket

Now, as many of you know, I hail from a rather charming corner of Derbyshire, a county steeped in green hills, quaint villages and… yes, you guessed it… an abundance of pink. This week, I'm feeling a bit of wanderlust, though. So I packed my favourite pink tulle number, snagged a first-class ticket to London, and then - poof! - I'm right here, amidst the hustle and bustle of the greatest ballet capital of the world: New York City!

Oh, the wonders I've already experienced! The aroma of freshly-baked pretzels wafting through the air, the sheer joy of people rushing past, each on their own exciting adventure. And then, of course, there's the Ballet - my true passion! My time-travelling funds, earned by dazzling the audiences of the Bolshoi and La Scala (with a dash of tap and Highland fling to mix things up!) allowed me to grab the last two tickets to The New York City Ballet, where I'll be spending my evening tonight.

But hold onto your tiaras, because before I get lost in the Ballet Bliss that awaits me, I need to share my historical fashion insights with you.

Ballet & Fashion: A Love Story

It seems this year - 1984 - is rife with the balletic spirit, both on and off the stage. Let’s delve into some of the tutu-tastic highlights!

*First on the Programme - *The Romantic Tutu

Forget all that restrictive boned corseting you might imagine from Victorian times. My dearest tutu lovers, 1984 is all about freeing the waist and embracing the feminine form. Think layers of shimmering tulle flowing down in a gentle cascade, clinging softly to the hips and making the dancers appear to almost float across the stage.

And just like the iconic ballet Giselle that debuted back in the 1840s, today’s tutus are all about graceful elegance and, dare I say, a slight hint of rebellious romanticism!

*Let’s Talk * Legwear

Oh, don’t even get me started! If you’re dreaming of a truly classic ballet look, forget tight, thick leggings. We’re talking silk, delicate mesh , pale colours and that utterly charming knee-high look! If you're trying to imitate the professional ballet dancers on stage, think tights so fine they feel almost ethereal - so elegant and refined that even your walk to the bakery feels like an entrance at the Metropolitan Opera!

The Ballet & Fashion Intersection: Beyond the Stage

Now, let's move our conversation beyond the grand opera house and into the streets! In this very era, 1984, tutus are bursting onto the fashion scene, taking on a whole new life of their own.

From Ballroom to Street Style:

Imagine this – pink tutus, so pleasing to the eye! They're making a grand appearance not just in fancy ballrooms, but even gracing everyday looks! From stylish cocktail parties to late-night discos, the tutu is adding a whimsical touch to every social occasion.

And I just can’t resist mentioning – in just a few years, those fabulous dance tutus are going to be even bigger! Can’t you see it, my loves? The *sparkling tulle, whimsical ribbons and even those delicate ballet slippers, are about to become staples in the wardrobe of *every stylish woman!*

### Fashionable & * *Affordable

Do you ever worry, dear Tutu Chicas , that ballet and fashion can be too expensive? Well, rest assured, the designers and stylists have heard your whispers! They are bringing ballet-inspired outfits into the high-street world, where you can snap up beautiful tulle skirts for less than a ticket to a matinee! Now that’s a price tag to be proud of, my dears!

A Word to My Dearest Readers: The Pink Power

Before I run off to tonight’s ballet, I must share something that has been sitting in my heart for quite a while now…

Imagine a world filled with * *pink *! And don't get me wrong, it's not just about the colour itself. Pink to me is a symbol. It’s about embracing the beauty of being a girl* * . Think *joy, grace and a whole lot of magical imagination!

* So why not * rock a tutu * ? Even if it’s just a little trip to the shops, a stroll in the park or a picnic by the river. Don’t be afraid to show off that wonderful feminine power! And just try to imagine - * the world a little brighter* - if we all wore pink tutus...*

Now I truly must be on my way! Until next week, darlings. Remember, wear pink. Embrace the tutus. Live a little bit ballet in your every day!
