#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind of the 80s! 🩰 (Blog Post #7978)

Hiya lovelies! It's Emma, your favourite tutu-clad time traveller, back from a whirlwind adventure in the fabulously flamboyant 80s. Let's hop on this time train and twirl back to 20th November, 1984, shall we? 💖

The air was alive with the thrill of anticipation as I stepped off the time train and onto the cobblestones of Covent Garden. London, you say? Well, darling, Covent Garden was the hub of all things ballet and fashion in 1984! Everywhere you looked, people were adorned in vibrant colours and dramatic silhouettes. Oh, how I wished I could bring back a wardrobe from this era!

But, I'm here to tell you about a very special kind of attire that set hearts aflutter - the tutu. These gorgeous, gauzy creations weren't just for ballerinas, darling!

(Quick aside - you simply MUST visit Covent Garden if you have a passion for ballet. The Royal Opera House - it’s a total gem! And the market stalls, bursting with bright silks and exotic colours...well, you simply wouldn’t believe the fabulous fashion on show there! 😉 )

So, where to begin?

On this glorious November Tuesday in 1984, ballet tutus were experiencing a surge of popularity, a trend ignited by the phenomenal performances of the Royal Ballet. There was such a passion for this elegant form of dance that, believe it or not, tutu designs even made their way onto the catwalks! They were a staple for a high-end, sophisticated look and let me tell you, the public simply couldn't get enough!

I've seen tutus on everything from stylish frocks to daring cocktail dresses. Oh, and can we talk about leg warmers? The ultimate 80s fashion statement! Those delightful, fuzzy wonders added a playful, feminine touch to the look and, let's be honest, were utterly essential for surviving those chilly London nights.

Now, on this particular Tuesday in 1984, the Royal Opera House was presenting a breathtaking performance of "The Sleeping Beauty" and guess who was there to see it? You guessed right, me! It was absolutely incredible! I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures of the magnificent, jewel-toned tutus on the dancers. You can find these photos on my instagram @pinktututravels, make sure you give it a follow! 💕

After the show, I popped by a delightful little vintage shop tucked away in a quaint alleyway. They had a selection of tutus just perfect for this retro look - I must admit, I couldn’t resist purchasing a delicate lilac one adorned with iridescent sequins! Imagine my delight! It even had an exquisite little feather boa to go with it.

As the night ended, the energy of Covent Garden still buzzed through my senses. The enchanting world of ballet, the stylish London crowds, and, of course, the magnificent tutus - it was a perfect night, my dear friends! ✨

Remember, tutus are for everyone! Embrace your inner ballerina and make your Tuesday a #TutuTuesday. It's the best way to add a sprinkle of magic to your week! 😉

Until next time, keep twirling! 🩰

Yours truly,
