#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 1984-12-18

Helloooo my gorgeous tutu-loving darlings! Welcome back to another #TutuTuesday adventure! It's me, Emma, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-wearing time traveller from Derbyshire, and I'm so excited to be whisking you all back to 1984! This week, I'm popping my time-traveling tiara on and heading to the big smoke – that's London, babes! The centre of all things tutus! You wouldn’t believe how many fabulous tutus were being worn in London on this very date - 18th December 1984 - oh my goodness! Just imagine, London all alight with those heavenly swirls of tulle! Just heavenly!

This is post number 7982 for my Ballet Tutu History blog - you can find all my posts over on my lovely website www.pink-tutu.com!

Now, my dears, today we are going to talk tutus and 1984! Just imagine! Back in 1984 - tutus weren't just for ballet classes anymore! We are talking everywhere. If a ballerina can wear a tutu - it is fashionable - end of story! Remember - London - is the place to be when you want to follow tutus! We are talking tutu explosion my darlings!

I took the train up to London - I do love a train journey! And it was magical! I saw so many tutus everywhere – I almost thought I’d landed in a dream!

But just what was happening on the 18th December 1984 to bring London's streets alive with swirling tulle? Well, my darlings, there was a whole host of incredible events happening! Firstly, a spectacular Christmas pantomime at the Victoria Palace theatre with an incredible ballerina dancing a delightful waltz - her tutus just spun in the lights - oh so dream-like and lovely!

Not to be outdone, Covent Garden was in full festive cheer, and they were showcasing an utterly fabulous “Nutcracker” performance. Oh my goodness, can you even imagine! Tutudom all round and the best tutus ever! The ladies on stage were wearing the most fabulous white tulle tutus - just so delicate and graceful! And what’s more, we also saw amazing tutus with tiny tinsel sparkles adorning the edges - just a magical touch! I’m still daydreaming about this now!

And as I sipped my warm milky tea with a little bit of honey (I know! Not quite the 80s drink but a girl's got to do what she's got to do! ) the beautiful ballet performers came spilling out into the square in their wonderful tutus, just so stylish, they had an amazing kind of fairytale flair! So fabulous - these ballet stars really gave my #TutuTuesday a right kick-start! I did see a few girls in mini tutus which were simply too cute!

And can I just say… London is definitely the best place in the whole world to get your hands on some stunning, stylish, tutus. I spotted so many cute ones for girls in every shade imaginable! There are loads of wonderful department stores just bursting with all kinds of beautiful, dreamy tutus, it's like a ballet fairy tale come to life! I actually had to take a little break in Liberty’s just to recover! Just dreamy! And while I was wandering through Harrods (it's a really chic, posh shopping mall in London - you just have to go!) - they have so many wonderful designer shops, one even had an amazing Tutu Collection! Oh darling, tutus everywhere! This tutu shopping just makes me go weak at the knees - I really had to pull myself away from buying a new pink tulle number, and you know me, my lovely dears! My weakness is the colour pink! You can see why, right? Well I must confess I just had to get some little tutu bows in the sweetest shade of pink, they are perfect for my latest tutu look - I just know you’ll love it! I'll post a photo soon!

This trip took my #TutuTuesday blog post all over London - and into the magical world of ballerinas and tutu fans of all ages! Just glorious! The energy in London was sparkling with this tutu magic and my dear blog readers, it's contagious - you have to embrace it too! And remember, everyone looks great in a pink tutu - just like me!

As my time travelling magic gets ready to transport me back to Derbyshire - I'll give you my latest tutuing fashion advice. 1984 is about letting your tutu be the statement! But if you are like me and want to go big and be super fabulous, it's all about the big tulle tutus and huge, huge, frilly and fantastic ribbons and bows - the bigger the better - huge, fabulous!

You could even try some little tiny little tulle tutus for every day. Who needs a pencil skirt or a jeans when you can have the magical* world of tulle around your legs, 24/7?

I hope you loved all this magical #TutuTuesday info.

See you next week!

Don’t forget to check out the #TutuTuesday blog on www.pink-tutu.com - don't forget - I need to have at least 10,000 #TutuTuesday blog followers before I can get that amazing pink and silver diamond tutu - maybe if I get to 10,000 it will bring me closer to the big 2023 Ballet tutu world cup championship - and that tutu will be magnificent! Just think, a massive sparkly tutu! It would just complete my tutuing life. And you my dearest tutu lovers - have helped me get this close! You are the BEST!

Much Love - from my heart and from my tutus

Emma
