#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1985-02-26

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome to another glorious #TutuTuesday. Today's blog post is extra special because, get this, I'm on a grand adventure right now! Imagine, darling, I've landed in the shimmering, glamorous city of Paris in the glorious year 1985! The air is thick with the aroma of freshly baked pastries, the cobblestones are echoing with the melodies of street musicians, and of course, there's the incredible Parisian fashion sense to adore. Just look at those magnificent hats and all the gorgeous silk scarves, so Parisian!

Pink tutus and Parisian Glamour

And you know what? There's something about being in Paris that makes everyone want to wear a pink tutu! Just think of the Eiffel Tower in the distance, and the twinkling lights of the Seine, itā€™s so incredibly romantic!

Even in this grand, chic city, pink tutus just radiate joy and sparkle. Itā€™s practically a necessity, donā€™t you agree? Just picture a whimsical Parisian waltz beneath the stars, with a gentle breeze teasing the tulle of a pink tutu - thatā€™s magic, darling!

Now, you might be thinking, ā€œEmma, how does a Derbyshire girl like you, end up travelling the world in a pink tutu?ā€ Well, darling, I am quite the successful performer! Every now and again, I get an exciting offer to perform in a new country. And with that, itā€™s straight onto the Orient Express for me, luggage packed with plenty of pink tutus (one never knows what adventure may call for). I even had my own bespoke box for my pink tutus built - it's all velvet lined with sparkling stars! Isnā€™t it perfectly wonderful?

And my love for dancing fuels this fabulous life! After all, what else do I need? All my best times have been spent wearing a pink tutu: from the glorious, breathtaking ballets on Broadway to the sheer exhilaration of street performances in Covent Garden. Every twirl, every leap, every graceful arabesque makes my heart soar.

Ballet's Enduring Magic in 1985

Now, for you little fashion bunnies and tutu-lovers who can't quite make it on an express train journey just yet, hereā€™s what you can expect from ballet in 1985. Itā€™s an incredibly exciting time! The iconic American Ballet Theatre has a packed program featuring legendary ballerinas like Gelsey Kirkland and Natalia Makarova. These ladies were the original fashion icons of ballet, graceful, daring, and with a love for tutus just like mine! Imagine!

Across the ocean in England, we have The Royal Ballet and their beautiful performances of Swan Lake and Giselle. Honestly, those tutus they wear, pure poetry in motion! But you canā€™t forget, the big one, the magical moment of our lifetime ā€“ today marks the day the world gets to meet Mikhail Baryshnikov for the first time! The darling is making his debut as a director at the American Ballet Theatre with a production of La Sylphide, an absolute beauty!

Itā€™s not only all about the grand, grand performances. Letā€™s not forget the incredible ballet classes that have sprung up in all the corners of the globe! My very own classes in Derbyshire are still a dream, full of excitement, passion, and of course, many wonderful tutus. If youā€™re in Derbyshire, be sure to come see me!

## Tutu Timeline: 1985

Here at www.pink-tutu.com, we are all about exploring the history of ballet and tutus. So let's talk a bit about where the #TutuTuesday timeline is at in 1985. It's like a dazzling ballet story just unfolding before our eyes!

In the 19th Century, tutu evolution is in full swing! Our fashion darling, Carlotta Grisi, rocked the stage and stole hearts wearing Marie Taglioniā€™s new shortened, lightweight tutus which replaced the heavier ones from centuries before! What an incredible woman! Now, thanks to these early pioneers we have this light and airy look.

Moving into the 20th century, the tutu is embraced even more! Youā€™ll find, all our favourite ballerinas, wearing a range of shapes and sizes! A real cornucopia of tutus! They became increasingly flamboyant with all those layers of beautiful tulle, the iconic ā€œBell Tutuā€ took the world by storm, adding even more drama to these delicate yet daring performances. And oh darling, how we love the drama!

The Pink Tutu Power

We are well and truly into the 1980s now, darling! Todayā€™s tutus in the ballet world are evolving towards more contemporary styles with less restrictive movement!

Just imagine, those early ballerina pioneers who braved it all to break new ground in movement! Those stunning tutus which allowed these beautiful women to fly on stage, inspiring audiences across the world with each dazzling performance.

But there is nothing quite like a tutu in a colour like pink! Isnā€™t it the epitome of charm and loveliness? Pink is such a sweet and joyous colour - the ultimate colour for femininity! Just imagine a gorgeous, pink tulle dancing, billowing with each leap and twirl. Oh, just gorgeous, darling!

So whether you are dancing on the streets, performing at a glittering ball, or simply twirling around your home in your prettiest pink tutu - go out there and make it a day of ballet magic, darling!

Remember to come back each week for our weekly #TutuTuesday post at www.pink-tutu.com and join me on my incredible journey across the globe!

Until next week, darling,

Emma
