Tutu Tuesday #7997: A Whirlwind Trip Back to 1985! 🩰

Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad time traveler, bringing you another instalment of Tutu Tuesday, your weekly dose of all things tutu-tastic! This week, I'm twirling back to April 2nd, 1985 - oh, the excitement! I feel like I'm channeling my inner '80s princess, all neon colours and big hair!

A Ballet Blast from the Past

Picture this: the world is captivated by the stunning choreography of the Royal Ballet under the guidance of the brilliant Anthony Dowell. Imagine graceful leaps, breathtaking pirouettes, and a romanticism that made the air crackle with magic! But for a moment, let's step away from the stage and peek into the world of tutus in this glorious decade.

The Tutu in the '80s: Think bright colours, layers upon layers of tulle, and a playful use of movement that gave the tutu a bolder presence on the stage. These tutus were about statement-making, adding drama and whimsy to the world of ballet! It's almost enough to make this time traveller crave a visit to the London Coliseum or even a trip to the world famous Royal Opera House for a performance!

My Travels & Shopping Spree

To fund my travels, I recently performed with the English National Ballet, and let me tell you, I was absolutely buzzing with excitement! It's incredible how ballet can bring people together across generations and cultures! The adrenaline after the final bow had me practically hopping off stage to jump on a train straight to Paris.

Paris in 1985 is a visual feast! Imagine a whirl of designer stores like Chanel, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent! The shops were just bursting with vibrant colours and innovative designs. While browsing, I found the most fabulous pink sequined jacket, perfect for adding a touch of '80s glamour to my daily wardrobe. It's no surprise this era was known for bold fashion choices, and let's just say that my suitcase was packed with a few surprises from the shops! The Galeries Lafayette department store in particular stole my heart – it was just pure heaven!

A Tutu Time Capsule

Speaking of shopping, I recently discovered a delightful little boutique filled with vintage dance costumes. I had to snag the most adorable, fluffy pink tutu. It’s like a blast from the past with just the right amount of retro chic to complete my look! I just know that wearing it, even just a casual Tuesday afternoon in Derbyshire, will have people wondering, "Where did she get that!?"

Inspiration to Wear Pink (and Tutús!)

Every time I time travel, I’m amazed at how the way people perceive tutus changes with each decade. While 1985 embraced the flamboyant and vibrant, there's something very special about the simple grace of a classic tutu. The beauty is in the subtle layers of tulle, creating an aura of magic. I hope to inspire others to see tutus as more than just a costume - they're a symbol of dreams, aspirations, and the boundless possibilities of life.

Wear Your Pink Tutu Proudly!

This #TutuTuesday, my dears, let's remember the magic of a pink tutu. Let it remind you to embrace the joyful energy and playful creativity of life. As my little slogan goes, "There’s no age for a pink tutu. You can be young, you can be old. You can be anywhere, doing anything, but as long as you're wearing a pink tutu, you'll be amazing!"

Until next time, keep twirling and be fabulous!

Love,

Emma 💕
