#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Blog Post No. 8004: 21st May 1985 - A Glittering Flashback!

Hello my darling darlings, and welcome back to another glorious #TutuTuesday! As you know, we're on a whirlwind tour through Ballet Tutu History, and today, we're dipping our toes (or rather, our pointe shoes!) into the magical world of May 21st, 1985!

Now, hold onto your bonnets, because we're stepping into a world of iconic ballet performances and some utterly glamorous fashion trends.

Whizzing Back to the 80s

First, a bit of a behind-the-scenes peek at how your fabulously pink-tutu-loving time traveller managed to arrive here! Oh, darling, it was an absolute thrill! I caught a late-night train from Derbyshire (gotta love those charming countryside stations!), all for the pleasure of hopping aboard a fantastic steam-powered carriage that whisked me right back to 1985! As I gazed out the window, I noticed a touch of nostalgia in the air. That era - oh, the big hair, the bold shoulders, the neon hues, the incredible energy! Such a fantastic, vibrant time to be a ballerina.

Speaking of fabulous energy, imagine a ballet performance, all sleek and streamlined with the gorgeous power and grace of an absolute legend. And guess what? This particular 21st May happened to be the night The Royal Ballet was captivating London audiences with “La Sylphide", and let me tell you, that must have been utterly breathtaking. Imagine that stage, all velvet and shimmering lights, and those fabulous costumes swirling around. Such beauty!

Fashion Frenzy

I, of course, couldn’t resist venturing out into the vibrant fashion world of 1985. Now, if you love vintage like me, get ready for some seriously chic style. It's a mix of everything, with pops of colour and texture that scream 80s in the most fabulous way. I'm talking bright pink sweaters (perfect for the Pink Tutu lover, obviously!), sleek and shimmering dresses, and of course, the undeniable trend: leg warmers. Don’t think I won’t be adding a couple to my own collection, especially paired with a fabulous pink tutu, wouldn't you agree?

Pink Tutu Adventures

Let's talk about pink! This vibrant hue was in full bloom in 1985. Now, darling, when you consider pink and tutus, you immediately think of elegance, joy, and maybe even a bit of cheeky sweetness, wouldn’t you agree? But even then, a ballet was rarely complete without the dramatic black tutus, oh darling! We do love a bit of dramatic impact, don't we?

Looking Ahead to the Future of Dance

In 1985, the world of ballet was about to enter a new age, with the arrival of ground-breaking choreographers like William Forsythe. His unique and captivating works injected a new energy into ballet, pulling away from traditional, classical works.

And let's face it, the ballet world has always loved breaking boundaries! That’s exactly why we continue to evolve. And as we zoom ahead to our very own future, I see tutus of all shapes and sizes playing a crucial part in the world of dance, becoming even more inventive, more bold and more magical. Imagine a dazzling spectacle, like nothing you’ve seen before!

Join Me!

Until next time, my lovely dancers, keep your tutus twirling, your hearts dancing, and your minds open to all the beautiful possibilities.

Now, go on, and share your thoughts. I’d love to hear your ideas about tutus and ballet!

And as always, be sure to join me for another fabulous adventure in time on next week's #TutuTuesday!

See you soon, darlings!

Emma
