Tutu Tuesday #8030: Whirlwind Through the 80s! ๐ฉฐ๐
Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, ready to whisk you back in time to a very special date - 19th November, 1985! This week, we're diving headfirst into the vibrant world of ballet and fashion, all thanks to my trusty time machine โ well, my savings from the last few ballet performances, really! ๐
Now, as a girl who worships the very ground a tutu stands on, 1985 was a year chock-full of exciting things. From iconic performances to bold new styles, it's hard to know where to start! But fear not, dear readers, for I have chosen a little slice of history for your viewing pleasure.
Ballet in the Big Apple ๐Imagine a whirlwind of tutus and leaps. Yes, on this very day, November 19th, 1985, New York City was the place to be for ballet lovers. The New York City Ballet, oh so glamorous, opened their season at the Lincoln Center. The stage was set for a night of captivating artistry. The energy in the air must have been absolutely electrifying. Just picturing it sends shivers down my spine!
My word, what would it have been like to be a spectator that night? The air thick with anticipation. A hush descends as the music starts. A gasp as the first ballerina pirouettes across the stage. A sea of tutus dancing with effortless grace... it would have been spectacular! I'm simply brimming with envy!
What Was Trending? ๐๏ธSpeaking of tutus, did you know 1985 was an absolute haven for all things feminine and frilly? It was the peak of the big-shouldered, brightly-coloured trend โ a perfect storm of glamour and power. It's a bit much for my taste, but I do appreciate the boldness of the era!
Think structured silhouettes with vibrant colours and eye-catching prints. Now, I do love me a vibrant pink tutu, but I'd much prefer it in soft silks and a more floaty style. You see, this whole frill-and-feather concept is very much my style, just not with the overly dramatic silhouette. Luckily, ballet still kept things wonderfully streamlined and chic!
My Top Picks for This Tuesday โจOf course, whatโs a Tutu Tuesday without some vintage inspiration? Here are some of my favourite styles from the decade that totally rock my world:
The Ballerina Bodycon: A figure-hugging silhouette is timeless, but in 1985 it was truly the hero of the show! Imagine a chic little black dress with an extravagant puff-sleeve, cinched in at the waist โ perfect for a fancy event, even a trip to the theatre, like those you see at The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden! It would have turned heads at a ballet performance for sure.
The Pastel Powerhouse: Now, this oneโs really close to my heart. Forget the bright, bold colours of the times. Think pastels, pastels, pastels! A pale blue blouse tucked into a skirt, all finished with a floaty pink tutu. Absolutely adorable, don't you think? I could imagine a scene out of the movie, Footloose, with an utterly fabulous pastel-clad ballerina!
The Leg Warmer Extravaganza: Letโs face it, even today, there's something incredibly stylish about leg warmers! Imagine them with a skirt and a fluffy pink tutu. They're a wonderful addition to any dancerโs wardrobe! Just pop on a bold lipstick for a 1980s vibe and a perfect combination for a dance rehearsal.
This week, Iโve decided to leave behind the bright lights of New York for a new adventure! Imagine hopping aboard a quaint train, window open to the breeze, the scent of woodsmoke mingling with the floral scent of my favourite pink tutu. I'm picturing quaint, countryside station stops โ maybe stopping off for a cream tea along the way? I do adore a classic, beautifully-made Victoria sponge and a cup of tea.
With all this vintage fun, I feel like the next destination on my #TutuTuesday travels will have a timeless, classic feel. Stay tuned, dear readers! Next week, I'll be whisking you off to the Parisian stage โ where the magic of ballet and fashion have intertwined for centuries!
Until then, my dears, keep twirling in your favourite tutus and be sure to check out our new line of "Tutu Tuesday" merchandise at www.pink-tutu.com! Youโre gonna adore it.
