Tutu Tuesday #8073: The Glittering Glory of 1986!

Hiya lovelies! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time traveler, ready to whisk you back to the glamorous world of ballet tutus in the fabulous year of 1986! Buckle up your pointe shoes, darlings, because we're about to journey to a time where tutus reigned supreme.

As you know, this is Tutu Tuesday - a time for us to celebrate all things tutu! And this week, we're taking a trip down memory lane to a decade that simply oozed glamour. The 1980s were all about big hair, bold colours, and oh, those dazzling tutus!

So, picture it: London. Itā€™s a beautiful September day, the air crisp and a touch of autumn nipping at the edges. 16th September, to be precise. And guess whatā€™s on the cultural calendar? Why, a ballet performance of course! Weā€™re at the Royal Opera House, where the magical world of ballet comes to life under the gilded chandeliers.

Now, Iā€™ve got to admit, tutus have always been a thing in ballet. But in the 1980s, they seemed to have this extraā€¦ oomph. The designs were more elaborate, the colours brighter, and the embellishments more lavish. Just think sequins, glitter, and feathers, oh my! It was a visual feast for the eyes, and those tutus, let me tell you, they really stole the show.

Back in 1986, a particular tutu was making headlines. The one designed by the legendary Christian Lacroix for the Paris Opera Ballet. It was an absolute masterpiece, an explosion of pink, purple and silver, all those extravagant fabrics draped and twirling and swishing with each graceful move. It was truly iconic, and for good reason!

Remember, back then, the focus was on the artistry and skill of the dancers, and tutus played a key role in amplifying the performance. Think of the way the tulle swirls around, how it catches the light and makes the dancers seem like theyā€™re gliding across the stage. It was just magical!

But 1986 wasn't all about the Royal Ballet. Fashion was taking on a whole new attitude, and guess who got swept up in the tide? Tutus, darling! You couldn't swing a cat (though letā€™s hope you never would) without bumping into a tutu-inspired outfit on the streets of London. The big names like Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano were all incorporating the ethereal and feminine allure of tutus into their designs. Even pop stars like Madonna, oh darling, she knew how to rock a tutu. You see, a tutu was no longer just for the stage.

Oh, the wonderful things happening back then! And just wait, thereā€™s more! Because whatā€™s more fun than one tutu, I hear you cry? You guessed it, a tutu party! I just happened to stumble upon this fascinating event happening in Notting Hill, and oh darling, the energy was absolutely electrifying!

You see, it was the time of ā€œFlash Mobsā€, a revolutionary way to dance your way into history. And these brave souls had gathered on the Portobello Road market for a massive tutu-clad flash mob performance. The joy and excitement were just bubbling over! Imagine, a whole bunch of lovely people all dancing in tutus! Pure magic!

Let me tell you, the energy that a flash mob brings is just electric! Itā€™s such a unique way of showing off your love for something, whether it's a piece of clothing or just the sheer joy of dancing!

Donā€™t worry lovelies, thereā€™s still plenty of magic left to sprinkle around! Remember, my mission in life, my dear friends, is to encourage the wearing of pink tutus across the globe. And with a flash mob like this, who knows, maybe Iā€™m making good progress.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to find myself a good old-fashioned train ticket back to the future.

Until next Tuesday, let the pink tutu love flow!

Love,

Emma
