#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 25th November, 1986! (Blog Post #8083)

Hello my darlings, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where tutus are always the star of the show! It's #TutuTuesday again, which means it's time to hop in our trusty time machine (which, in my case, is a vintage red train with a secret compartment filled with pink feather boas) and travel back to the past for a delightful dive into the fascinating history of the tutu.

Today, my lovely readers, we're taking a trip to 1986! It was a year of iconic pop music, a very bold hairstyle trend (don't get me started on those big hairspray clouds!), and some incredible ballet performances that I just had to get my little pink tutu to.

My oh my, how much fun we had in those days. Think of it: leg warmers, neon colours, and tutus with all the poof! Oh, the memories...

A Trip Down Memory Lane: The Ballet World in 1986

So, what were ballerinas twirling in back in November 1986?

Well, for one, "The Nutcracker" was already a beloved holiday tradition, and the sets and costumes were breathtaking! Imagine: sparkling tutus in shades of ivory and silver, rich velvety red and deep blues for the characters.

Remember those grand jetรฉs (long jumps) in "Swan Lake"? My goodness, I always gasped at the precision! I could almost achieve the same grace, if only my training included being lifted up by 12 swans.

Then there was the American Ballet Theatre's production of "Romeo and Juliet", set against the gorgeous backdrop of Renaissance Italy. Imagine a story of young love and tragic loss set to the most breathtaking music. The entire theatre vibrated with the passion and the raw emotion of the dance!

Speaking of beautiful, imagine how stunning a pink tutu would have looked with those majestic backdrops! Just picture the possibilities, my dear readers - a pink tutu with silver accents, or maybe a fluffy pink one with white ribbons? I can already see how lovely it would have been. ๐Ÿ˜‰

From the Stage to the Streets: The Tutu's Fashion Influence

You know me - I'm obsessed with both fashion and ballet, and in 1986 these two worlds seemed to blend together seamlessly! Think of all the outfits I could put together with a little poof of tulle here and a sparkly ribbon there:

  • Tutu with a turtleneck sweater: The perfect balance of femininity and coziness.
  • Tutu over denim jeans: A bit of whimsy in your everyday wear!
  • Tutu paired with a blazer and boots: Modern yet stylish!

Back then, everyone was taking their inspiration from the ballet - from fashion designers to everyday people.

So many beautiful looks to remember!

A Quick Recap:

1986 was a truly beautiful time for ballet, and I loved going to see performances in my own, personal pink tutu. But more than anything, it was the time of finding your own personal style, even if that meant adding a touch of tutu to your everyday look. And who knows? Maybe we can revive that little bit of whimsy today. ๐Ÿ˜Š
