#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1987-05-12 – A Dance Through Time!
Hello my darlings!
It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, bringing you another #TutuTuesday blog post from www.pink-tutu.com. We’re already at blog post number 8107, can you believe it? Time flies when you’re twirling, that’s for sure! Today, I’m whisking us back to 12th May 1987 for a little journey into ballet history! Grab your favourite pink tutu, darling, we’re off!
Now, 1987 was a truly magical year for ballet, particularly for The Royal Ballet (don't you just love the sound of that?). I’m talking grand ballets like “Giselle”, with its flowing tutus and poignant story, and “Swan Lake”, with its breathtaking costume design. Oh, and the elegance of those tutus in “Swan Lake” makes my heart melt every time. But hold your horses, there’s even more to discover!
Now, if you fancy a little slice of backstage action, I was in London on this very date – well, if you could consider zipping through time as ‘being there’, of course! The Royal Opera House (my beloved opera house!), had an absolutely exquisite performance of “Romeo and Juliet”. Talk about passionate drama! And guess what, I just HAD to see this performance – the tutus in the opening act are positively divine, not to mention the drama that unfolded before my very eyes.
Let’s be honest, what would a tutu enthusiast be without a shopping spree, right? Of course, I indulged in a little retail therapy on Bond Street (always a fab day out, darling!) before I headed to a darling cafe to indulge in a rather delightful cuppa and a plate of delicious macarons.
You see, my dear friends, it's not just the tutus I love, it’s the atmosphere, the whole experience – that feeling of belonging, of being a part of something bigger than myself. The smell of the stage, the thrumming energy of the audience – it’s all just SO magical.
But it wasn't just all about the big performances that year, oh no! This particular Tuesday in May, I decided to go back in time to see something even more inspiring – a little ballet school in my hometown of Derbyshire. Just a little, casual ballet class – you know, the kind that reminds you that even on a simple, everyday level, ballet is beautiful, graceful and totally accessible to anyone who wants to take the plunge (and twirl).
You see, it's all about connection, darling! From the smallest ballet studio to the most prestigious stage, ballet unites us all. And while I might adore the drama of the Royal Opera House and the majesty of The Royal Ballet, my heart truly warms to seeing youngsters taking their first steps (well, arabesques, more like!) in a cozy dance studio. There’s an innocence, a pure joy, that's utterly captivating!
Speaking of joy, my darlings, let me ask you, what would YOU be wearing on this magical Tuesday in May? Perhaps a delicate white tutu, with its charmingly innocent air? Or perhaps a bold pink one, making a statement to the world of your unwavering love for all things dance? Do tell, because I just adore getting your feedback – makes my day!
As for me, I’m off to the West End tomorrow – that’s right, another show is calling my name. It’s just what I need to inspire my next post!
But before I whisk myself off to another era, a final thought for you: never be afraid to dream big! Maybe it’s just me, but there's just something about a pink tutu that makes you feel unstoppable – you can do ANYTHING with a pink tutu, my dears!
Until next time, remember: Keep twirling, keep smiling, and don’t be afraid to let your pink tutu guide you to magical adventures.
See you soon!
Love,
Emma, your pink tutu-loving time traveler! 💖💃
