Tutu Tuesday: Back to the 80s! 🩰💖 #8110
Hello, darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things tutu. It's Tutu Tuesday, and I'm feeling particularly pink today, so strap on your dancing shoes, grab a cuppa, and let's take a trip down memory lane. This week, I'm whisking us back to June 2nd, 1987. The hairspray was strong, the leg warmers were higher, and the music? Oh, the music was simply electrifying!
This particular Tuesday, I found myself in London, darling. Such a bustling, exciting city! You just can't beat it for the theatre and dance. There I was, feeling fabulous in a sunshine yellow tutu, complete with fluffy feathers around the bottom - a real statement piece, you know. I even spotted a cheeky little tutu-clad dachshund outside the Royal Opera House! London was simply teeming with tutu-lovers. It was wonderful to see so many people embracing their inner ballerina, even if just for a moment.
What was going on in the world of ballet, you ask? Well, darling, the Royal Ballet were giving a performance of "Romeo and Juliet" at the Royal Opera House that very evening. Now, that's a ballet classic, and something I truly enjoyed witnessing. Such a passionate story, and those tutus? Simply divine! And remember, dear readers, a tutu isn't just for the stage; it can bring that magical, twirling joy into your everyday life.
Oh, and another thing! In 1987, the fashion world was abuzz with the return of the “power shoulder,” and that wasn’t just for suits! My favourite fashion magazine featured several dancers rocking their tutus with structured shoulder pads, giving a dramatic, edgy flair to their outfits. Who knew power shoulders could look so effortlessly chic? You just have to be confident and embrace that extra, dramatic flare.
Now, what else was happening on this glorious June Tuesday back in 1987? Well, to be perfectly honest, darling, my love of tutus meant that other world events took a backseat that day. There's just something about that frothy tulle that makes the world seem a little brighter and all you want to do is twirl. It’s a beautiful distraction from the stresses of daily life.
Remember, darling, every day can be Tutu Tuesday. Just add a touch of pink, a sprinkle of confidence, and a whole lot of twirling and watch the world open up!
Oh, and speaking of twirling, I can’t help but indulge in a bit of a personal anecdote. This past weekend, I was travelling by train. Yes, darling, train journeys are some of the most relaxing and wonderful moments. Now, a lovely lady seated opposite me noticed my (of course) pink tutu. She asked about it, her face full of curiosity and delight. She had a story of her own - how she danced ballet as a young girl but never really "grew out" of her tutu love. The conversation turned into a shared passion, with memories of pointe shoes and barre classes swirling around us, fuelled by steaming cups of tea and a box of delicious, fresh strawberries.
My journey may have been in 2023, but it's amazing to know that the passion for ballet and for tutus remains timeless.
So, dear readers, remember that whether it’s 1987, 2023, or any time in between, there's always room for a bit of twirling magic in our lives. Don't let anyone tell you that tutus are just for the stage - they belong in the world!
See you all next Tuesday for more tutu adventures, darlings. And don’t forget, keep it pink, keep it twirling, and most importantly, keep spreading that magical tutu spirit!
Lots of love,
Emma 🩰💖
