#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 29th September 1987 (Post #8127)

Hello, my darlings!

It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another journey through time and fashion - straight to your favourite corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com, for our weekly #TutuTuesday! Today, we're taking a trip back to the glorious 29th of September, 1987 - just imagine the excitement!

I travelled here by train, of course. It's just so elegant and refined, perfect for a lady who loves tutus as much as I do! And even though the fashion world was ablaze with power suits and big hair back then, let's face it, nothing beats a twirl in a fluffy pink tutu!

As I stepped out onto the bustling streets, I couldn't help but feel a little envious. Everyone was dressed in the most fabulous fashion – think bold prints, colourful tights, and hair that defied gravity. But as I twirled my way into a café, all eyes were on me. I'm not sure if it was the pink tutu (though I do love it!), but the whole room lit up with joy. I could hear a collective gasp of "oooh!" and "ah!" from the other patrons.

Speaking of excitement, can you believe it was a mere four years since we last witnessed the legendary Bolshoi Ballet grace London with their presence? Their performance at the Royal Opera House in 1983 had us all in raptures - imagine, my dear, all the glamour and the beauty, a true spectacle!

Tutus: A Glimpse Into the Past

But let's talk tutus! Imagine, dear reader, 1987 - the tutus then were not just costumes but expressions of art. Think delicate tulle, carefully constructed with layers and layers of softness, dancing on the bodies of the world’s greatest ballerinas.

The tutu's evolution through history is fascinating, don't you think? In the 19th century, Marie Taglioni, a renowned ballerina of her time, wore a loose-fitting skirt to perform the famous "La Sylphide." But, you know me - I prefer the Romantic and Classical ballerinas with the graceful, flowing tutus - they're simply breathtaking.

Even today, those classic silhouettes are still influencing modern designs. In fact, just last month I had the pleasure of seeing a stunning ballet adaptation of "Giselle" featuring some truly show-stopping tutus - all fluffy and twirling.

Speaking of ballerinas, we all adore them! They’re not just dancers; they’re performers, athletes, and artists, blending power and grace like no one else. And those graceful movements - their poise - I simply cannot get enough of their graceful artistry. It inspires me to want to twirl, to dance, to wear the fluffiest pinkest tutus ever created.

Finding my Inspiration

I spend my days exploring different places - imagine, visiting antique shops where I find old ballet posters - such a treat for my eyes - and libraries where I discover the most amazing books about the history of ballet! It’s fascinating to delve into how tutus have evolved. Imagine, tutus once were not these ethereal, graceful wisps of tulle that we cherish now!

You see, when I'm not traveling through time or indulging in ballet shows and performances, I'm often found lost in museums, exploring fashion archives and even attending private collection tours. You never know what treasures you'll find in the archives. Just recently I stumbled upon an incredible design by the renowned French designer Paul Poiret! A collection from the early 1900s featuring dresses with bold colours and elaborate fabrications - an early inspiration for the classic tutu!

This constant exposure to all things artistic keeps me buzzing! I have to admit, dear readers, my ultimate ambition? It’s pretty big – I want everyone to wear a pink tutu at least once! Don’t laugh! I see it in my dreams – all those glorious pink tutu swirls, fluttering with joyous laughter – a dream for any tutu-loving soul, isn't it?

But back to 1987! I must be going, my darlings. The London theatre scene is calling - perhaps I can catch a performance by the Royal Ballet tonight. Oh, and did I mention they are playing Swan Lake? My heart skips a beat just thinking about those graceful swans!

Remember to share your #TutuTuesday stories with me! You know you have your favourite tutu memories - let’s share them with the world! We can even recreate some of the iconic tutu styles from different eras. Let me know what you think!

Until next time, keep twirling!

With love and sparkle,

Emma
