Tutu Tuesday: A Blast from the Past! #8136

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back again for another whirl through ballet history. Today, we're taking a trip down memory lane to 1 December 1987. Put on your most fabulous pink tutu, grab a cuppa, and let's get ready to step back in time!

Before I share what happened on this delightful day in 1987, I need to tell you all about my most recent time-traveling adventure. This week, I travelled all the way to the bright lights of New York City. Oh, the sights! Oh, the fashion! Oh, the tutus! My darling, this trip was like stepping into a movie. The sheer glamour was simply breathtaking, and I picked up the most wonderful, feather-trimmed tutu in a vintage boutique in Soho. Imagine, it’s lilac with sparkling sequins – oh, you’ll be seeing it on the ‘Gram soon!

Back to our time machine. Remember my fascination with train travel? I was delighted to learn that on 1st December 1987, the first commercial high-speed rail line opened in France! I could practically feel the wind in my hair, and see the fields blurring past as the train sped along. The French were always pioneers in embracing the beauty of travel!

Now, let's delve into the world of ballet! On this particular day, there was something truly spectacular happening across the pond – a ballet performance at London's iconic Sadler's Wells Theatre! Imagine, a grand theatre with all its gilded splendor, filled with the most captivating dance. To be there, lost in the swirling movements and exquisite costumes – the very essence of a fairytale come to life.

Now, 1987 was a glorious time for ballet, but you know I always like to give a little nod to the past! Did you know that back in the Victorian era, ballerinas started wearing actual ‘tutu’ skirts? No more cumbersome layered petticoats – a revolution, my dears! They were lightweight, airy, and designed to show off those amazing leg extensions! Think of all those lovely swirling moments you see in the ballets today – that all stemmed from these revolutionary tutu designs.

In the spirit of #TutuTuesday, I'm channeling my inner Victorian dancer today, sporting my favourite vintage-inspired tulle creation, it’s blush pink, naturally! This tutu features a corset-like bodice and layers of gauzy tulle – I can’t resist a bit of a throwback! It feels both romantic and timeless – kind of like a fairytale story unfolding in layers!

If you're looking for some vintage tutu inspiration, be sure to check out some of the designs from the early 20th century. The ballet world was going through a golden age – and the tutues reflected the glamour of the era! Think swirling feathers, beaded embellishments, and intricate laces. Just divine! If you are feeling bold and daring, don’t be afraid to channel a bit of that 20s glamour and incorporate a little sparkly bling into your tutu! And you can always opt for a tutu with a slightly more Victorian flair with an embellished bodice and long, swirling layers of tulle. It’s like a delicate whirlwind, ready to take you on a magical adventure!

It’s always so fascinating to explore the evolution of ballet. Just think, if it weren’t for the tireless efforts of those who came before us, we wouldn’t have the beautiful tutu designs we know and love today! I always make it a point to wear my tutus with pride – it's not just about fashion; it’s a way of honouring a tradition that has inspired millions for generations!

Of course, every fashion-loving ballet enthusiast has to keep their eyes peeled for new trends and fresh ideas! I am obsessed with experimenting with different tutu styles – from modern and edgy, to elegant and ethereal – the options are truly endless! And I am so thrilled to see how tutus continue to evolve and inspire us to embrace our creativity and uniqueness.

Before I bid you farewell this week, I have a question for you my dear readers. What was your favourite tutu moment from 1987? Share your stories and photos with me on the #TutuTuesday hashtag!

See you next week for another journey into the wonderful world of ballet and tutus. Until then, darlings, remember to keep it pink and tutu fabulous!

Yours truly,

Emma.
