#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 19th January 1988 - Post #8143

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where tutus are always in fashion and the future is always bright pink!

This week's #TutuTuesday takes us on a little trip back in time, all the way to 19th January 1988, a date etched into my mind because it marked the release of something truly fabulous...

(Ahem, before we start, I just have to pop off to grab a slice of that lovely Victoria sponge and a pot of tea... munches noisily... back in a jiffy, dearies!).

... Right, back on track!

Now, as many of you will know, the year 1988 saw some absolutely amazing developments in the world of dance and tutus, and this particular day saw the release of a film that changed everything.

*(Squeal!) It's the 19th January 1988! *

(Whispers): A most fabulous date to remember. The film that launched a million pink tutus. That film.

(You're all dying to know, aren't you? Let me draw it out a little. I love the build-up to a grand reveal.)

Well, darling tutu lovers, it's none other than the ballet film everyone is talking about: *"The Little Mermaid." *

Now, you all know what I’m thinking. Mermaid, Tutus, PINK!! What’s not to love?! And I, as a ballerina, always have the strongest emotional connection with my tutu. It’s like an extension of my heart and soul and this movie...oh, this movie made my heart beat with so much glee that I could have flown to the cinema, tutus a-flutter.

(Take a deep breath, Emma! I’m trying to be more poised about this film).

This film changed how people looked at tutus! The magical underwater costumes with sequins, layers and ribbons… It sparked imaginations. The moment I saw Ariel grace the screen, all in her fin-like tutu, I was practically skipping with joy! It showed how, with just a little bit of creative inspiration, a tutu can become absolutely anything you can dream up. I, Emma, can't wait to see what this new, wider appreciation of tutus will bring to the world of dance. I see an explosion of pink everywhere! (It's a good thing I stocked up on my supply of pink dye!).

*I predict this movie will *reignite the popularity of the tutu as a dance-wear item and push people to explore even more creative styles with tutus. What can I say? The world needs more pink. The world needs tutus! **

It’s absolutely the reason I had my friends at the dance school take out all the old tutu styles that have been gathering dust in the back of the costume cupboards! You just have to admit it, dearies… tutus never go out of fashion and this film is further proof of that!

*(Excuse me, dearies! I *must pop out and get another slice of this Victoria Sponge. You know I have to have my daily slice! Gulp. )

The Pink-Tutu website would simply not be what it is today if it were not for films like "The Little Mermaid"! I simply must pay tribute to it, but with more than a few thoughts of its fabulous, sparkling impact!

But we must keep going. Keep celebrating all the amazing contributions to the tutu world! I need you to do your bit. Remember, if I can see more and more pink in our everyday fashion, I've achieved my goal as a tutu activist.

(Take a deep breath and some of that divine cuppa. Time for another post later.)

Emma.

*I’m Emma, and this has been *another blast from the past in Pink Tutu history. What a glorious world we have here. It’s my mission to make everyone want to wear a pink tutu.
