Tutu Tuesday: #8158 – Back to the Eighties!

Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, and I’m positively bursting with excitement to whisk you all back to May 3rd, 1988, for another fabulous trip through #TutuTuesday history! I’m back in the fabulous 80s, where everything’s bigger, brighter, and bold. Just like my tutu!

As we all know, tutus aren't just about pirouettes and pliés – they are a vital part of the history of fashion, an undeniable symbol of joy and elegance.

Imagine: Shoulder pads, neon colours, and leggings that screamed "I’m a 90s kid… well, an 80s one really!" That’s the 1980s in a nutshell. It's a decade that absolutely embraced colour, drama, and a love for life. And tutus fit right in! This is why I’m absolutely thrilled to tell you all about ballet history in 1988. Buckle up, darlings, as we take a whirlwind trip down memory lane!

Dancing into the Past:

The ballet world, my darlings, was alive and kicking in 1988. Just picture the graceful leaps of Misty Copeland, the effortless elegance of Gelsey Kirkland, and the awe-inspiring performances by Mikhail Baryshnikov. It was a time of incredible talent and passion, a truly magical era for the dance world. I mean, we could all learn a thing or two from the grace and power of these wonderful ballet performers.

On this very date, the 3rd of May, 1988, audiences at the Royal Opera House in London, my darling city! I think they call it "Covent Garden" these days, must change it to "Royal Tutu House!" they were mesmerised by "La Bayadère," a masterpiece by Marius Petipa. Now, La Bayadère's got some serious tutu power. Those incredible costumes, those magnificent, floaty layers...it was all utterly fabulous! I mean, have you ever seen so many gorgeous tutus all at once? Just the dream for any tutu lover.

If you haven’t seen "La Bayadère", make a note and put it on your to-do list for this month's performance. Oh, how I love ballet performances - the glamour, the magic, and the opportunity to watch so many incredible dancers in action! Plus, I just love seeing so many beautiful, romantic tutu's in a show. Oh! I’ve got a hankering to go shopping right now...I bet they had some fab tutu outfits in 1988!

Speaking of gorgeous outfits, I just love a trip on the train! It’s a chance to spot fellow fashionistas and people who just want to get a little fancy in the world! Plus, you never know what sort of ballet inspiration might float through my head on the way! Just thinking about all that lovely pink...

Oh, it’s so important to get our tutus on! We all deserve a touch of tutu magic in our lives. Imagine the smiles! It really could change the world, one pink tutu at a time! That’s what I believe in.

The Power of Pink:

And what's a #TutuTuesday blog without a dash of pink, you ask? Well, in the 1980s, pink wasn’t as popular as today. I had to sneak some pink into my time machine wardrobe! But that was okay; a bold and fabulous blue will do too! The point is that, regardless of the shade, it’s the twirl factor that really matters, darlings!

Now, darling readers, I’m off to practice some twirls! And of course, I’m sure I’ll spot a fabulous outfit or two on the way!

Remember: Life's too short to take yourself too seriously, so why not embrace a bit of fun and add some tutu magic to your day? I promise you won’t regret it.

Don’t forget to head over to our lovely www.pink-tutu.com website to find more ballet inspiration and to find out where to shop for some incredible tutu pieces! Oh, and don’t forget to post your pictures in your own #TutuTuesday outfits!

Keep it stylish and happy twirling!
