#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: August 2nd, 1988 ā A Dream in Pink! š©°
Welcome, darlings, to #TutuTuesday, post number 8171!
As you know, every Tuesday, we take a peek into the fabulous world of the tutu, its history, and its evolving place in our hearts, or shall I say, our dance wardrobes. Today, weāre heading back to August 2nd, 1988. Now, that might sound like a lifetime ago to some, but trust me, it was just a flash of glitter in the grand scheme of tutu history. And letās just say, it was a very pink flash!
Oh, and before we begin, do excuse me while I admire my own exquisite confection. Itās a double layered tulle masterpiece, blush pink, naturally, and finished with delicate rosebuds hand-stitched around the hem. Honestly, wouldnāt you just adore this shade on a day like today? Absolutely divine, right? Anyway, back to the historyā¦
Now, August 2nd, 1988 was a bit of a fashion hush hush in the world of ballet, Iāll admit. It wasn't an era of radical tutu designs, like the late 19th century or the experimental 20th century. However, if we look deeper, this date, much like our darling pink tutus, is hiding a hidden treasure, ready to sparkle.
First, imagine the beautiful ballet shoes, just waiting for their turn in a graceful pliƩ, the shimmering silk leotards with intricate detailing, oh, and of course the majestic ballet bun, held firmly by a pretty hair comb. It all adds up to an elegant picture.
That day in August, the world of ballet wasn't just about the stages of New York or Paris. The Royal Ballet was enchanting the audience at the Royal Opera House in London! Ah, just picture those incredible chandeliers sparkling above as the music swells, the dancers, breathtakingly graceful, captivating us with every twirl. Magnificent.
Letās talk about the performance itself ā it could have been Anything, anything at all! Imagine a grand classic like Swan Lake, the ethereal choreography of Giselle, or a dynamic piece like Romeo and Juliet, with its captivating passion. Weāre looking at a symphony of emotions, conveyed in the most beautiful way possible.
As for what else was happening in the world that day, the only real clue for us tutu enthusiasts? Well, just imagine all the delightful boutique shops, brimming with exquisite tulle fabrics and sparkling sequins, ready to be fashioned into glorious tutus, perfectly encapsulating the essence of femininity and beauty.
Now, this might sound just a tiny bit stereotypical, but whatās a girl to do when it comes to ballet and fashion? These two lovelies are practically meant to be together! Remember my mantra, āThe more pink the tutu, the better.ā And, as for what was in fashion outside the realm of the ballet stage, oh darling, itās like opening up a treasure chest. A wonderful wave of colour, from powder pink to soft lavender, adorned everything, with delicate lace detailing everywhere. Oh, I think it was one of the most divine eras for fashion! It made me want to twirl around in an impossibly romantic ballet dress every single day!
Letās journey further into August 1988. You could be whisked away on a whirlwind romance aboard a train in England, riding past breathtaking countryside on your way to an incredible ballet performance ā think Shakespearean romances at Stratford upon Avon, the excitement of seeing the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, or just simply the joy of watching a talented student performance in a small local theater. Isnāt that beautiful? I absolutely adore travelling by train, especially when it involves going to see a fabulous performance. And trust me, every trip is even better in a perfectly-coordinated pink tutu!
You might have found yourself enjoying an afternoon at the Royal Opera House, basking in the golden glow of chandeliers, enthralled by the story unfolding on stage. Itās those little details, the captivating beauty, that made this August day such a delight. And yes, darling, those exquisite ballerinas were most likely swirling around in the most stunning, oh-so-pretty, tutus! You could even find me on that very day, dressed in my dream pink tutu, taking it all in, with a wide grin across my face and a happy heart!
Oh, what's that you say? "What if I could experience August 1988 myself, Emma?" Well, darling, isnāt that why I dedicate myself to my Tutu Travels?! Time travel is real, my love. Every tutu-perfect dance performance gives me a chance to step back into the world of elegant costumes and dazzling stories, all thanks to the magic of ballet! Imagine that.
We, as true tutu lovers, share this special bond with history, with every ballerina who twirled before us, with every designer who dreamt of bringing these creations to life. Every pink, purple, and yes even blue tutu, tells a story! Thatās what makes it all so magical, my love, that's why we'll always find our hearts soaring high on #TutuTuesday.
Remember, dear friends, always find joy in the simple pleasures ā a pretty tulle skirt, a magical ballet performance, and of course, the unwavering joy of sharing our love for everything tutu!
Until next Tuesday, when we travel further into timeā¦keep twirling and keep shining, my lovelies!
P.S. I have a confession...I found my newest pink tulle design inspired by my trip back to August 1988. Iām already dreaming about that shimmering, heart-fluttering design for my next tutu creation. Will it be perfect for your August events? š
