Tutu Tuesday #8183: A Pinktastic Journey Through Time!
Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, back for another fabulously flamboyant Tutu Tuesday! Buckle up, my dears, because today weāre jetting off to 1988, a glorious year for tutus, shopping, and all things fabulous!
Oh, it was such a glorious time to be a ballerina in 1988! Just imagine: leg warmers with everything, hair so high you could almost touch the ceiling, and those stunning, gravity-defying tutus!
This weekās trip took me to Paris - I love the train journey there - so glamorous! The city of lights is the ultimate inspiration for everything fabulous, fashionable and undeniably pink. Of course, the Eiffel Tower is always spectacular. On 25th October 1988, they were starting a spectacular new display, an absolutely mesmerising illuminated water and sound show! It was definitely a highlight!
As always, my Parisian journey wasn't complete without a serious shopping spree! I must confess I was utterly smitten by the chic Parisian boutiques showcasing the most fabulous pastel tutus and accessories - think fuchsia, baby pink, lavender, and rose, oh my! A dream come true, I tell you!
You simply couldnāt escape the influence of ballet in the eighties - ballet pumps, ballet jackets and leg warmers everywhere! Ballet shoes were the must-have footwear. My favourite was the toe shoe - an iconic, minimalist design. These elegant ballet slippers had a simple but powerful design that screamed chic and sophistication. And letās not forget the gorgeous tutu designs, darling! From classical pointe work to playful contemporary designs, there was a tutu for every occasion!
While weāre on the subject of āevery occasion,ā imagine this: a dazzling array of dance performances all happening on the 25th October 1988! Ballet was HUGE in the 80ās, darling. There was a whole host of ballets that simply stole the show from London to Paris! One of my personal favourites was āGiselleā - so incredibly dramatic and romantic. Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, now that's a duo, my dears! And did you know that the very same day as my shopping spree in Paris, there was a fantastic performance of Swan Lake in London at the Royal Opera House? What an amazing night of balletic bliss!
And don't even get me started on the street performers! Paris, darling, it was bursting with talent. From mime to classical music, the atmosphere was electric. The street theatre truly brought a dash of the theatre world into every day life! This time-traveler certainly had a wonderful time. And yes, of course I danced to my heartās content - on the cobbled streets of Paris, no less, wearing the most fabulous, flowing pink tutu!
Now, I have a little confession to make, dears - it wasn't all sequins and sunshine. Let's just say, my trip involved a certain incident with a croissant, a flock of pigeons, and a very distressed Parisian policeman. But let's keep those details for a rainy day, eh? Youāll never guess where weāll be travelling to next Tuesday, darling! Stay tuned, follow @pink_tutu on Instagram and check out www.pink-tutu.com for all things tutus and more fashion news!
Until next time,
XOXO, Emma
