Hello, my dearest tutu-lovers! It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-clad guide to all things sparkly and twirly! 🩰

Today we’re taking a trip back in time, to a date that’s not too far from today: 4th April 1989! That’s right, a whole thirty-four years ago, when the world was still figuring out the wonders of the internet and the cassette tapes were still ruling the airwaves. 🎶

I popped over there in my trusty pink tutu and a fabulously fluffy shawl (one needs to be prepared for the chills of the past!), and boy, let me tell you, I had a right good time.

And you know what I found? This was the golden age of tutus, folks! They were everywhere! 🤩 You couldn't step out your front door in any major city in the world without seeing at least one glorious, billowing tutu.

Remember, this is 1989, a time before athleisure and all its spandexy glory, a time where true artistry in clothing ruled the day. Tutues weren't just for the ballet; they were everywhere, from fashion editorials to even those popular music videos from artists like Madonna! The tutus, they were like magic in a swirling mass of fabric. 💫

You know what I'm going to talk about? Yes, I'm going to share some of my most fascinating observations about tutus from this remarkable era. You know the rule, darling! No tutu story is complete without some lovely pink in the mix! 😉

Fashion & The Tutu

Let’s talk trends, shall we? Think pink, think bright colours, think of tutus made out of tulle, nylon, and organza that looked so fluffy and light. Think feathers, sparkles, ribbons, and ruffles. They weren’t just for the stage, they were everywhere! Think elegant ballgowns that looked just like a graceful ballerina’s tutu. Think short mini-skirts for those funky street style looks.

It was a truly spectacular time for fashion. The tutu was the symbol of the moment, representing a blend of playful fun and refined glamour. This was also an age when big was beautiful. Oversized everything - shoulder pads, bows, earrings – and yes, tutus too! Think larger than life creations.

A Night At The Ballet

1989? A golden age of ballet, darling! Think Rudolf Nureyev at the Royal Ballet, a dazzling figure that ignited passion for dance worldwide!

Imagine, a night at the theatre – the grand chandeliers, the hushed excitement, and then the magical sweep of the stage as the curtain rises! The orchestra swells, the ballerinas grace the stage with such elegant movements, their tulle tutus, seemingly floating in the air like a whimsical dream.

Then the ballet starts… Swan Lake, a timeless classic, was performed all across the globe in this year! And it was breathtaking. There were moments of true beauty when the ballerinas swirled in their exquisite white tutus, representing pure, graceful elegance. There were tutus in various colours, embodying passion and tragedy, adding an extra dimension to the artistry on display!

These moments just made you want to learn how to dance and twirl! 😍

Going to the Ballet

But the tutu magic didn’t just stay in the theatre! It was everywhere, I promise!

My adventures through 1989 also included trips to some pretty incredible ballet schools – just picture the vibrant dance studios with walls adorned with posters of dancers in all sorts of incredible tutus!

There was a magic to watching young girls practice, their faces filled with a contagious energy as they danced to the music. Their little tutus, carefully put on for their ballet classes, represented more than just a piece of clothing – it was a symbol of their dream to fly and dance, like a princess in a fairytale! 🩰

I couldn’t resist joining them in the studios for some practice. You know what, those young ballerinas inspired me, they put on their tutus with so much enthusiasm! You can always find me rocking a vibrant tutu while dancing with joy and passion, and this period certainly got my imagination running wild! 💖

A Journey To Remember

1989 is truly an amazing year in tutu history! It was a time where fashion and dance met in beautiful, flamboyant harmony. It reminded me of how magical and powerful a little tutu can be, how it can make you feel strong, empowered, and joyful all at the same time.

As you're getting ready to go out on Tuesday, I’m hoping you’re all going to reach into your wardrobes and whip out those tutus! 💖 Even if you’re just putting it on for a little twirl at home, that’s perfect!

And if you’re wondering what I’m doing next week… Oh, a time travelling trip to explore some early tutus! You see, a good old vintage ballet tutu is the most enchanting find of them all. So, be sure to check in next week for a new #TutuTuesday adventure on www.pink-tutu.com!
