#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: August 29th, 1989 (Post #8227)
Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! Welcome back to another edition of #TutuTuesday! I'm your resident tutu-tastic time traveller, Emma, bringing you a delightful dose of ballet history straight from the archives!
This week, we're twirling back to August 29th, 1989. A fabulous time, wouldn't you agree? Remember that iconic "Like a Prayer" music video by Madonna? That was around this time! Can you believe it?
It's amazing to think about how much the world has changed since then! Back in 1989, the tutu wasn't quite as ubiquitous as it is today, but we were definitely seeing the rise of its fashion influence, even outside of the dance world! Just imagine, my darling tutus, some of you are now vintage items! Oh, to be so stylishly timeless!
Today I'm going to whisk you all on a trip to London. London is a haven for ballet! It’s bursting with history and you're surrounded by iconic theatres. Oh, to stand outside Covent Garden Opera House in a flurry of pink tutu tulle, simply dreams! You know I'll be in the audience, twirling right along to the magical music.
The Dance World in 1989
In the realm of ballet, things were heating up in 1989! A wonderful array of ballets were gracing the stages across the world, capturing the hearts of dance aficionados with their artistry. And in the grandest of all settings, Covent Garden, the Royal Ballet was enchanting the London theatre crowd with their classic productions. "Swan Lake," the ultimate ballet dream! Oh, those dramatic white tutus! The breathtaking beauty and graceful athleticism were absolutely electrifying! If you're lucky enough to see it, don't be afraid to shed a tear or two.
Ballet on the Big Screen
Let’s talk movies for a second! Who remembers "The Red Shoes?" That film from 1948 that took the world by storm? Well, guess what? There was another captivating ballet-inspired movie that came out in 1989, "Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure." Can you believe it? It had ballet dancers! You can’t have too much ballet in life!
But let's not forget the fashion, darling! Think of those fantastic leg warmers and bright colours, absolutely fabulous!
What's Going On Around The World This Week?
August 29th was just a lovely ordinary Tuesday back in 1989, like any other. The sun shone down upon London's vibrant streets. You can bet people were sporting the newest styles of the 1980s! Those neon shades and bold patterns! Imagine that! Oh, to travel back in time and explore that style scene!
Keeping the Tutu Spirit Alive
Oh my dears, my heart melts when I see all you wonderful ballet-loving people embracing the tutu! It brings a smile to my face, knowing the tutu is out there, being cherished, inspiring, and making the world a little more magical, just like it did back in 1989.
I can’t wait for you all to discover some beautiful, breathtaking tutu magic for yourselves this week, whether you’re attending a performance, taking a class, or simply admiring a gorgeous tutu on your journey through the day.
So let's twirl our way through the rest of this week, spreading joy and sunshine wherever we go. Don’t forget to wear your best pink tutu. See you next Tuesday for another fabulous Tutu Tuesday adventure!
