Tutu Tuesday #8245: A Whirl Through Time! 🩰

Hiya darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and it's Tutu Tuesday once again! πŸŽ‰

As always, we're taking a little trip through the wonderful world of ballet and, this week, we're zooming all the way back to January 2nd, 1990. That's right, we're venturing into the wonderful, wild, and a little bit neon world of the late '80s! Can you even imagine?! πŸ’–

I'm absolutely loving the 1990s - it's like a fashion time warp that keeps getting more awesome with each journey! Big hair, bright colours, and tutus that are just a little bit more, well, everything! You can find me dancing along in my most fabulous pink tutu, strutting around, feeling the extra!

And speaking of extra... have you seen the shows that were going on in 1990?! They were quite simply breathtaking! The Royal Ballet was still making waves with their incredible performances of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, and they were also busy introducing a whole bunch of exciting new ballets that took the world by storm. Honestly, you wouldn't believe some of the costumes and the stories! πŸ’–

But, you know me - I can't get enough of tutus! Let's talk history, shall we? It's the beginning of the 1990s, so of course, the classic romantic tutus were still around, but they were getting a makeover. Think dramatic, voluminous layers, beautifully structured fabrics and a whole lot more glitter! 🀩

But hold on a second... what about the other side of the tutu? Remember those iconic "ballet street" performances in the late 1980s? It was all about blending the elegant movements of ballet with street-style influences. Picture sleek black leotards, sassy legwarmers and tutus that weren't afraid to get a little bit messy and rebelliously playful. This new movement injected a vibrant new energy into the world of ballet and took tutus out of the theatre and into the streets! 😎

Honestly, the more I explore the history of the tutu, the more I love its amazing evolution and incredible versatility! We're talking ballet classics, revolutionary dance forms and a fashion that embraces individuality and, yes, even a whole lot of pink! 🩰 πŸ’–

Oh, and can we just take a moment to celebrate January 2nd itself?! Not only is it the perfect date for a magical journey back in time, but also a brilliant excuse to visit the stunning National Gallery in London. It's an absolute must-see, even if your style leans more toward en pointe than impressionist masterpieces! πŸ˜‰

Speaking of style, I’ve got to head off and find my perfect pink tutu for my next dance. But before I go, a little Tutu Tuesday question for you - Which ballerina from the 1990s was your favourite? I absolutely adored Margot Fonteyn, she just radiates that elegant ballet magic. Tell me your answer in the comments below, and don’t forget to let me know what tutu trends you’d like to see covered in my next post.

Until next time,

Emma XOXO
