#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time! 🩰✨ (Post #8257)
Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast and time-travelling fashionista, back with another delightful #TutuTuesday blog post! Today, we’re waltzing back to March 27th, 1990, and boy oh boy, were there some amazing tutu-ful things happening! I’m sure you’re all wondering, “Emma, what could be so thrilling about a date in the eighties? Tell us, darling! What sartorial delights are in store?” Well, dear readers, hold onto your feather boas, because we’re in for a right treat!
It's a crisp, sunny spring day here in New York City, the perfect weather for a spin around the Big Apple in a lovely pink tutu, wouldn't you agree? Speaking of spinning, imagine this – the New York City Ballet is showcasing the incredible George Balanchine's **"Symphony in C". Imagine those beautiful tulle skirts whirling across the stage! Pure tutu magic, darling! I hear there’s even a touch of pink in some of the tutus – perfectly divine! After the performance, a delightful dinner at The Russian Tea Room would be the ideal ending to this day, wouldn’t you agree?
But hold your horses, darlings! Because we’re not just about the ballet, we’re about all things tutu! While the ballets of this period are truly enchanting, the real magic, if you ask me, is in how people are wearing the tutu in their daily lives! I am delighted to report that in 1990, the tutu is becoming a staple in fashion – a real statement piece. I saw an article in Vogue showcasing several designers incorporating tutu-inspired shapes and embellishments into their evening wear collections – and of course, you'll be sure to catch me twirling on a train ride home from the theater with a lovely, blush-colored tulle number. So exciting!
As a quick fashion tip: I find the best way to integrate a tutu into an everyday look is to embrace its lightness and playfulness with an equally whimsical touch. Consider pairing it with a soft cardigan, a beautiful beaded necklace, and of course, a pair of killer heels. You’ll be the most glamorous one on the street in no time!
Did you know that even the music world has gone tutu-crazy in 1990? You heard right, darlings – the New Kids on the Block, those heartthrobs! They’re releasing an album called "Step by Step," and apparently, there’s a song on there called "The Right Stuff!" Can you believe it? It’s all so very fitting. I believe the tutu is most certainly the "Right Stuff" when it comes to making a fashion statement!
You might be thinking, "Emma, how did you get to New York in the eighties? Is this some magical secret only you know?" Well, darlings, I’ve found that there’s something rather lovely about travelling by train. It’s such a classic, you know, so refined and elegant. The clackety-clack of the wheels and the charming little tea service makes for such a special journey. And when it comes to travelling through time, I find that it really makes for the most wonderful dream-like experience that just about anyone could have.
However, my little love of travel is all thanks to a real passion for ballet. I am completely smitten by the grace and elegance of dance – I am convinced that we can all become like beautiful dancers if we simply believe it in our hearts! I earn enough from ballet performances to fund my travels – from London to Paris to… yes, even New York. I see a little bit of each of these special places and then I travel back in time to explore, shop, and make new memories, always in my lovely, whimsical tutus!
As my grandmother would always say: “There’s nothing a beautiful pink tutu can't fix!” And I would agree – a twirl in a gorgeous tutu will turn any dull day into something truly magical. So go out there and put on your pinkest tutu! Let your inner ballerina shine. After all, darling, we’re all about spreading a little tutu love and making the world a more sparkling place!
And, as always, thank you so much for joining me on this adventure through time! Now, excuse me, but I’m off to catch the next train and find some divine new ballet footwear. Until next #TutuTuesday, darlings!
Love always, Emma xx
