#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back in Time! (Post #8268)

Hello my gorgeous tutu-loving lovelies! It's your favourite pink-clad ballerina blogger, Emma, back again for another exciting journey through the glorious history of ballet tutus. Today we're hopping in the time machine and whizzing back to 12th June 1990! Grab your fanciest pink ribbons, darling, because this date holds some seriously fabulous ballet history…

As a bit of context, I’ve just spent the weekend in New York City, soaking up the electrifying atmosphere of the New York City Ballet. Can you imagine a world without tights? Well, believe it or not, that's where we find ourselves in 1990! This year saw the revolutionary introduction of tights for ballet dancers. It might seem like a small thing, but trust me, this was a huge game-changer for the world of dance!

Before tights, ballerinas wore leotards for performance, and it was actually quite the norm for them to go commando. Yep, you heard me right, dear readers, bare legs under the tutus. Imagine the audacity! Not very flattering and definitely not the chicest of looks, don't you think? Thank goodness for modern tights!

Speaking of New York City, I have to share my latest obsession - a delightful new ballet boutique I stumbled upon while shopping for a brand-new, sparkly tutu. "The Dance Shoppe," it’s called. Just walking in, you can practically feel the passion and dedication for the art of ballet – I found myself practically skipping down the aisle in glee! Now, my darlings, you all know how I love a good tutu, right? But just when you thought tutus couldn’t get any more gorgeous, they've gone and upped the ante with new styles this season! We're talking pastel colours, embellished designs, and even tights to match, in all the gorgeous, girly shades you could possibly imagine! They have one in blush pink with gold embellishments – it’s positively divine!

Now, you all know how much I love the power of a good outfit, and in 1990, fashion is truly blossoming! There’s this lovely store on 5th Avenue that has this stunning collection of evening wear. It’s like they’ve taken the grace and elegance of ballet and transformed it into everyday style! You see these gorgeous, floaty gowns, reminiscent of a ballerina’s costume – imagine twirling through a fancy soirée! My, my, just the thought of it gets me excited, darlings! I simply have to get my hands on one of these magnificent pieces. I can imagine the envy on every woman’s face as I waltz past.

After a truly delightful afternoon shopping, I headed for the Royal Opera House, the epicentre of London's ballet scene! Imagine the beautiful, ornate architecture – absolutely breathtaking! Inside, they’re showcasing “Giselle”, one of the most enchanting ballets ever. The costumes! The movements! The stories! You simply have to see it to believe it! I adore “Giselle”, a real heartbreaker. It's like a fairytale! With stories like “Giselle” and “Swan Lake” I can see why the ballet craze is sweeping across the globe!

While I love the ballet world, darling, I know that you all have very busy lives – we've all got jobs to attend to and family commitments, but trust me, even just one dance class a week can bring a smile to your face and a bounce to your step. There’s nothing quite like letting loose with other women, feeling graceful and strong as we twirl to our heart's content! *You don't even need a fancy tutu, just a little pink something to get your girly groove on! You're absolutely glowing! What do you say? Think pink, dance happy, my darlings!

Until next time, let's all strive to bring a bit more twirl and sparkle into our lives. Don’t forget to subscribe and let me know what you think!

Your ever-so-slightly-obsessed-with-ballet,

Emma xoxo

P.S. I’d love to know which of your favourite ballerinas were performing on June 12, 1990! Tell me all about it in the comments below. Don't forget to use the hashtag #TutuTuesday to show off your own amazing pink tutu fashion!
