Hello my darling tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, back with another dose of #TutuTuesday history! Today we're taking a little trip back to October 16th, 1990. Buckle up, my dears, it's going to be a delightful ride through the world of fashion and dance!
As usual, I found a way to travel back in time courtesy of my fabulously supportive sponsors – my lovely ballet performances! Remember, I've got a serious case of wanderlust, and a fondness for the fantastic and fabulous! It's amazing how many historical figures donned a tutu and sashayed their way onto the stage, wouldn't you agree?
So, let's go back to 1990 and see what was on the dance calendar!
The Rise of the Tutu:
1990! It was a time when dance was really coming into its own, especially in America, you know. The rise of ballet street, contemporary ballet, and fusion styles really shook things up. Everyone was trying to find the next big thing, and the world was eager to dance! But, let's be honest, everyone always finds a reason to slip into a tutu!
Oh my, let's not forget about the tutu fashions, you beauties! There was such a revival of old styles and an embrace of all the different colours! Remember the wonderful tutu dresses, my dears? It's just pure fun and fabulousness all wrapped up into one package. So what did people choose to wear? Let me tell you, it was a cornucopia of lovely colours and a mix of everything under the sun! Think floral patterns, geometric prints, a rainbow of bold colours, and just a dash of vintage flair. Everyone wanted to add a little pizazz to their lives, and who better to inspire than those lovely ballerinas, you know?
Where Fashion and Ballet Collide:
Imagine, if you will, this darling scenario!
There's this exquisite ballet theatre, glittering with all its pomp and splendour. In a sea of velvet and gilt, some of the most beautiful ladies, you know, are elegantly waltzing on the stage. Oh my, don't get me started on the costume details! Imagine this: shimmering layers of silk, sparkling sequins, and an abundance of those wonderful plumes and ruffles! Can you see it? Just picture a perfectly poised ballet dancer twirling in a dreamlike confection of lace, ruffles, and shimmering tulle – simply divine!
Now, imagine yourself standing outside the theatre after the performance, wearing your most splendid tutu! We all need a little sparkle and shine in our lives, my lovelies, don't we? It’s not just about looking amazing, but feeling confident and vibrant – and what could be more exhilarating than the perfect twirl in your favourite tutu?
Oh, my dear, can you picture the absolute frenzy and joy of all these tutus going round and round? It would be so charming and wonderful, wouldn't it? It’s what makes ballet performances so unforgettable!
Let’s Dance Back in Time!
There were some truly iconic performances happening around the world this week. It seems we are in the midst of an absolute boom for ballet. You’ve got the Russian dance legends – those phenomenal ballet troupes are putting on mind-blowing shows! In America, those delightful and charismatic performers are enchanting everyone.
I even heard rumours of an incredible new ballet school that opened in, get this, London! My favourite city in the entire world, darling! Let's go on a fashion adventure there together next week!
So, where should I take you on our next time travel adventure? Shall we jet off to Paris for a day of shopping for the most wonderful tutus? Perhaps we can travel to Vienna for a lovely cup of hot cocoa and watch the Ballet Vienna waltz into our hearts. You’ve got to try Vienna, my darling, the fashion, the history, the art! So many wonderful shops and the most amazing cakes! You must go for a cake with a glass of tea if you go there. Vienna, Vienna, oh Vienna!
