Tutu Tuesday #8306: A Peek into the Past! 🩰

Hey Tutu-licious lovelies! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed, time-traveling fashionista, and it's time for another Tutu Tuesday!

Today, we're stepping back in time, way back to 5th March 1991, to explore the world of ballet and tutus in the glorious era of the early nineties. Imagine it, my dears, a time before social media, where we didn't constantly check our phones and lived in the moment! Imagine that! Now, don't think I'm saying it's all been downhill since then (it hasn't!), but the 90s did have a certain magic to it, you know? And, let me tell you, the tutus were something else. 💖

Right, before I completely digress, let's talk tutur history. It wouldn't be Tutu Tuesday without a bit of history, would it?

On 5th March 1991 we saw the launch of the first *Royal Opera House "Friends of the Opera" scheme, and for any true ballet fanatic, there really couldn't be anything more exciting! From humble beginnings, this scheme gave access to the ballet and opera lovers of the time. From that day onwards, friends could support the world-renowned, glorious ROH and all that it offered - what could be more fantastic for all of us true ballet lovers? Oh, how I wish I had been around to join in those very first days!

You know what else I adore about the early 90s? The music! The dance floors, filled with that fantastic house music beat? I tell you what, that was the very best era! The energy of those tunes, they truly brought an exuberance and dynamism to every single ballet performance. Those steps just flew across the stage! 💃🕺 And can you imagine tutus flowing like the clouds against a background of rave culture - it was a truly iconic fashion look.

Remember, fashion and ballet have always gone hand in hand. Think about the amazing designs in Black Swan. Tutuexclusives on that day, back in '91, would have definitely embraced some of the rave themes and incorporated them into their ballet shoes and attire. I mean, it just begs for a splash of colour and bold creativity! It’s this mix that gives the whole world of fashion so much vibrancy!

Anyway, it wouldn’t be a Tutu Tuesday blog without a "look". Today, we're talking bold colour. Now, my darlings, you know pink is my absolute favourite hue but a little red, some hot magenta or a fiery coral, would make the most amazing, 90s rave inspired tutu. We're looking for a tulle explosion here, let those layers cascade! Just add a few diamantés and you'll have the look of the century.

Of course, all of us, no matter the fashion trends or eras, have one thing in common - a love for our ballet shows. The world-class theatre shows with a little something for everyone, all on one magnificent stage! I just love that magic feeling as I sit down in my seat, with the anticipation bubbling and then finally, those iconic red curtains rise. Ah, pure perfection! 💖

If there's one thing we all want for every new season of dance, it’s to watch a production we all love. You might find me right there in the audience with all of you. Maybe I'll see you on a Tuesday, after all, we know all of us ballet aficionados have to go see some of those truly amazing performances. The feeling, the lights, the energy, it all makes ballet a real treasure. 💎

Oh! And guess what? I discovered the most amazing vintage shop in Covent Garden! I have found myself an absolutely stunning vintage pair of tutus with those exquisite diamantés I mentioned - what luck! Just the one for that 90s look and I can tell it’s going to make all my new fashion and dance looks sing! 🤩

Well, lovelies, I've got a train to catch back to the future. My next ballet show is waiting! Remember to always rock your pink, to find your happy place in your tutu, and above all else, have fun and embrace your ballet-loving inner spirit!

I’ll leave you with a quote from the extraordinary choreographer, Antony Tudor. He said, "A ballet should never have a clear beginning, a clear end. There should be nothing except beauty." 💖

So let's make this world even more beautiful - wear your tutu proudly.

Until next Tuesday! And, always, live a life filled with beautiful movements and happy twirls! 🩰💃

Emma. xx
