#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - December 15th 1992 - Blog Post #8399
Oh my darlings, welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where pink tutus reign supreme! It’s a blustery Tuesday here in the heart of London town, the kind of day that makes you want to curl up in a giant tutu made of cashmere and drink hot chocolate. But fret not, dear readers, because today we’re venturing into the annals of history!
For our #TutuTuesday, we’re going back to December 15th, 1992! Now, I’m a big fan of vintage, but let’s face it, 1992 was just yesterday in the grand scheme of things, but so much was happening in the ballet world! The Royal Ballet was busy captivating audiences with The Nutcracker, its magical performance truly epitomising the spirit of the season. What a beautiful ballet!
Speaking of beautiful, the Metropolitan Opera House was alight with the grace and elegance of the New York City Ballet's "The Sleeping Beauty". Now, I must admit, a ballet with such a grand and regal title is something I simply have to see. It would make the most glorious inspiration for a blog post - just imagine! Pink and white tutus shimmering under the chandeliers... It’s enough to make me swoon.
Meanwhile, in my favourite little shop tucked away in the backstreets of Covent Garden, I found myself swooning over the latest collection of ballet shoes. We're talking exquisite craftsmanship and such exquisite materials. But my absolute favourite? The delicate satin slippers adorned with the most delicate rosebuds, each petal a symphony of soft pinks and creams. Such perfection, and such a treat to wear on a ballerina’s feet!
That evening, after indulging in a divine plate of scones and cream (it’s not a proper trip to London without it!), I treated myself to a wonderful ballet show at the Royal Opera House. Imagine, my darlings, all that grandeur and opulence, all wrapped up in the beautiful storytelling of classical ballet! A breathtaking performance, with costumes so breathtakingly elaborate - each tutu a masterpiece of its own! I simply couldn’t resist taking a photo for Instagram. I know you lovely ladies love those!
Now, even if you can’t quite reach the glittering heights of the ballet world, there's nothing stopping you from adding a touch of tutu magic to your everyday life. That’s my aim here at pink-tutu.com, darling - to spread the tutu love! Wear them for a special occasion, wear them for a Sunday brunch with friends, or just wear them because it makes you smile. Who says a pink tutu isn’t office-appropriate?
So, remember this: tutus are not just for ballet, they’re for every occasion. I want everyone to be able to unleash their inner ballerina, regardless of their age or background!
Speaking of ballet, I’m actually spending the rest of the week immersed in all things ballet! On Wednesday, I'm finally visiting my old ballet studio - can you believe it's been ages? And of course, Thursday evening will see me in the stalls at the Royal Opera House to catch the next show! The excitement of being a ballerina, however small a part I play, never truly leaves you. My dream would be to get a performance piece written for me!
But for now, I bid you adieu until next Tuesday, my lovely tutu-loving readers! Do keep the pink-tutu.com website bookmarked, and follow me on Instagram!
Your ballet-obsessed friend,
Emma xx
