#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1993-02-02 (Blog Post No. 8406)

Hiya, darlings! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you away to the magical world of ballet and, of course, tutus! Today, we're heading back to 1993, the year Madonna (in a fabulous, glittery tutu, of course) brought us “I’ll Remember,” a tune that I’m sure had many of you swaying on the dance floor back then, even if your steps were a bit less "professional" than those of your local ballet troupe!

Ballet on Stage: A Glittering Galore

February 2nd 1993... Oh, this day was brimming with tutu magic! There were fantastic performances taking place around the globe, with renowned ballerinas and danseurss dazzling on stages. My trip on the Orient Express that week, (can’t miss out on some elegant railway travel, can we?!), had me skipping down to a spectacular production of "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Paris Opera, just a dream for any tutu enthusiast!

Those grand tutus, with their voluminous skirts and elaborate embellishments – pure enchantment! Imagine the sparkle, the flutter, the grace... Oh, I could have spent hours just observing the way they swished and danced, especially when a ballerina went en pointe. The power, the control... Just brilliant! I don’t think anything can quite match the beauty of a classic, traditional ballet, especially with all that tulle twirling around. It’s like a visual symphony.

And, of course, this date wasn't just about ballerinas twirling in their glorious tutus – there was some fabulous fashion too, because a ballet show is always the perfect opportunity for some glamorous getup. Let's dive into a few style points, shall we? The ladies were wearing long gowns and slinky dresses, some in gorgeous jewel tones, while the gentlemen looked debonair in their crisp suits and tuxedos.

Shopping For That Perfect Pink Tutu

Let’s take a step back from the stage, and talk a little about a little retail therapy! I’ve just discovered this amazing shop, “Dance Wear Depot,” that was absolutely heaving with the most stunning tutus and ballet gear back in 1993. Everything from traditional, classic tutus to a fabulous collection of “new style” tutus with playful designs, all colours imaginable, but you know, of course, pink reigned supreme, as it always will!

I picked myself up a beautiful pink tutu, a shimmering delight! It's light as air, and when I wear it I swear I feel as though I'm floating. If you love the pink tutu style, do a little digging – it’s such a beautiful silhouette and there's a perfect style out there for everyone, whether you’re a ballerina or just a tutu lover like me! You might even be able to find some fantastic vintage finds from back then.

The Pink Tutu – A Worldwide Phenomenon

From a ballet lover to all of you… my dear pink tutu enthusiasts... I do think it’s time we shared a bit of that enchanting magic of the ballet world! We need to embrace the joy and the elegance and simply have some fun. So, let’s all join together – whether it’s in the theatre, in your local studio or even just on your couch – and let’s make every day feel a bit like "TutuTuesday!" What do you say? Let’s keep this #pinktutudream alive. It’s our world to wear.

That’s all from your Tutu Queen for today, folks. I hope you’ve enjoyed this quick jaunt into 1993. Now, I must go and add this date’s journey into my travelogue – but for now, I am signing off…

See you next week!
