Tutu Tuesday: #8441 - Taking a Twirl Through 1993! đŸ©°

Hello my darling tutu-lovers! Welcome back to Pink Tutu! I'm your resident pink-obsessed time-travelling ballerina, Emma, and it's #TutuTuesday, which means it's time to explore the glorious history of the tutu!

Today, my little lovelies, we're taking a trip to 1993. A year full of glitter, good music and oh so much tulle! Now, as always, I’m finding my way around this vintage year by combining my love of ballet with my love of a good vintage fashion find - so my darling tutus have definitely earned their keep in transporting me to this particular moment in time. This is actually my favourite way to travel - by performance! It’s magical and economical! After all, who wouldn’t pay to watch a fabulous ballerina take to the stage? (And get a few amazing outfit ideas too?)

The first thing you've got to know about 1993 is, we are in the heart of a very special ballet season. If you’re looking for iconic choreography to impress your friends and get those Tutu Tuesday outfit ideas flowing, you’ve got to check out a little ballet company called “New York City Ballet”. The company was performing "Balanchine's The Four Temperaments” by choreographer George Balanchine, at the New York State Theater. (I was quite lucky to snag a ticket – let’s just say a performance to see the choreography behind those beautiful ballet costumes and iconic stage movement? This is where all the good times were at this point in time!)

But my darlings, 1993 is all about variety! This wasn't just about ballet - even those of us obsessed with tutu's, needed a break every now and then. So if you fancy a change of scene, we’re heading across the pond to check out some fashion in London Town. And let me tell you, fashion and shopping in 1993 is just as fabulous and inspiring. What could be more fun, darling, than seeing iconic pieces from a super talented British fashion designer with a keen eye for the catwalk. Let me give you a hint - this designer really put the emphasis on strong femininity in their collection – which is certainly something that deserves a special nod!

Fashion forward and fearless, we're heading for Alexander McQueen’s ‘The Jack The Ripper’ collection, at the British Museum in London! Now, that’s the kind of show-stopping outfit that will give those Tutu Tuesday blog readers the style ideas to remember. We are talking iconic shapes, some seriously chic detailing, and outfits that would make a real statement! Think strong tailoring and some incredible textiles that make the whole event even more fabulous. That is definitely a big YES from Emma!

I am obsessed with this particular moment in fashion history! Not just because the entire vibe is strong and dramatic - that’s my kind of fashion vibe - but it is also such a significant time for so many designers in the UK. The '90s in London were filled with incredibly talented individuals who all contributed to making British fashion a powerful international force. The influence of those iconic brands and designers like Alexander McQueen - well let’s just say we are forever in their debt for bringing the world all the best of fashion!

Oh my darling, we are only just getting started! You know we simply couldn't talk about the magic of 1993 without looking at those glorious ballet costumes. For 1993, there was this amazing revival of the classics. And trust me, it really helped shape some of those really special design moments. From my favourites (all that sparkly and shimmer!) - to those breathtaking modern silhouettes. It was a beautiful time to be in a world that truly believed in the magic of dancing and all that amazing tulle! It was the decade for taking everything back to the roots of ballet - making the most out of the most exquisite fabric around - with a huge dose of modern chic thrown in!

We've got some serious fashion going on, so for a real treat I recommend visiting “Ballet 1993: A Photographic Chronicle.” This is my #TutuTuesday inspiration pick! It really does capture all those amazing costume designs that you could have only dreamed of! The detail in this book gives us all a really important glimpse into just how creative and unique the entire ballet community truly was at this time!

Let’s take a moment and step back. So how can we bring back the 90’s for Tutu Tuesday! This year of glamour and magic, we are all going to have a wonderful time channelling those fabulous vibes. Imagine all that shimmering and stunning, almost fairytale like fashion – this is what we will be recreating. We will take inspiration from the famous ballet dancers, with their classic and refined silhouettes - so maybe it’s time to explore some romantic tutus, or some chic tulle skirts.

We are also embracing a real love of modern interpretations. So whether your heart wants bold statement skirts, beautiful velvet and the ultimate feminine silhouette or classic designs that have an authentic history behind them, this year's Tutu Tuesday will be filled with some very beautiful looks! So, I suggest - keep your eyes peeled and let's embrace those creative outfits and bring out those unique and glamorous Tutu Tuesday looks for a touch of classic chic!

Remember, the secret is to keep your imagination strong and never forget how beautiful a simple, shimmering and flowing fabric like tulle can be! I've been inspired by this beautiful historical journey, I hope you are too, and if you are then go ahead, darling, and don't forget to put on your tutu and show the world your inner ballerina!
