#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 8463 🩰🌸

Hello my darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back again with another peek into the fascinating world of ballet history! Today’s journey takes us all the way back to March 8th, 1994, and, as we all know, this isn’t just any date - it's International Women's Day! How fitting, as tutus and women have always been intertwined, and what better way to celebrate than with a dose of fabulous history, eh?

The Big Apple, Here We Come!

This time, our dance takes us across the pond to New York City, the glittering heart of American ballet. Just imagine the hustle and bustle of Times Square, the yellow cabs, and the buzz of Broadway! The ballet world was just as lively, and this particular Tuesday was a real gem!

Dancing the Night Away

If you were in NYC on that Tuesday, you could’ve caught the New York City Ballet performing "Concerto Barocco" by George Balanchine at the Lincoln Center. This ballet is a classic – the elegance of the movements, the beautiful music by Bach, it truly takes you to another world! If you had a penchant for the romantic side of ballet, the New York City Opera at the New York State Theatre was presenting the enchanting opera, "The Merry Widow" with its operetta tunes and fabulous costumes. My word! Talk about twirly dresses! Just the thing to inspire us to reach for our own tutus.

Behind the Scenes and A Whole Lotta Pink!

To keep up with the ballet scene back in the early nineties, everyone had to get their hands on "Dance Magazine." It’s always a must-read for anyone who wants to stay ahead of the dance game. Oh, and it’s absolutely brimming with tutus. I know what you're thinking - tutus! But back in those days, not quite the glorious pink affair that I adore so much! But that’s where I come in. If you want to take the ballet world by storm, think pink. Think about how much prettier everything would be in that perfect hue.

Fashion Fix

The fashion scene in New York, always a hotbed of creativity, was buzzing with grunge-inspired styles and lots of bold colour – so many opportunities to sneak in some pink with a fab little tutu or two. Just imagine – pink layered over a grunge outfit! Pure genius! Or maybe a bright, sassy pink tutu worn with a simple, elegant evening dress for a glamorous, unexpected touch. The possibilities are endless, my dears!

The Ballet Life, Full of Sparkle and Grace!

Oh, to be back in those days. Seeing dancers gliding across the stage, their movements like whispers on the air, the tutus, just slightly less pink but still fabulous. And that is what ballet does, it brings joy and magic into the world. A tutu can do that too, so why not give it a go? Don’t be shy!

Travel by Train, Pink Tutu, in the Making

The 1990s were all about the rail! Trains whisking me across the globe - I love their elegance, the view from the window, that feeling of anticipation! You see, as you all know, ballet is the very essence of travel through time, across continents, to places both familiar and strange. It is what inspires my travel by train and my travels through time. I think I shall try to find my way to a ballet performance in New York! I may be tempted to give them a little history lesson on the merits of wearing a lovely pink tutu too. But more on that later!

Until next week my sweethearts, stay sparkling and never forget, pink tutus are the way to go!

With much love, and lots of pink tutus,

Emma 💖🩰

(Emma’s pink tutu-tastic travel through time is supported by her phenomenal ballet performances. She may look dainty but she's a powerful dancer! Be sure to catch one of her captivating shows at the venues across the globe. Don't miss her next performance on www.pink-tutu.com!)
