#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 8512! šš©°
Hello darling tutu lovers! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet dedicated to the glorious tutu! Today, on this lovely February Tuesday, weāre time-traveling back to the 14th of February 1995! Can you imagine? The year of the Spice Girls and the very beginning of the internet! š
My name's Emma and Iām a twenty-something ballerina from Derbyshire, with a very particular passion: pink tutus. They're so fabulous, donāt you think? And yes, I travel through time to see how our beloved tutu has evolved! I just love the history of fashion! š©°
I pay for my travels by performing in various ballets across the world. I must say, I get to wear some stunning tutus on stage and I even have the chance to watch some spectacular shows - I just can't resist! Plus, you know, seeing how fashion has developed over time is so interesting.
But for now, letās get back to this week's #TutuTuesday and that romantic day - February 14th 1995 - back in the mists of time! š
Well, what a lovely Valentine's Day to be in, right? š Who could resist a Valentineās Day back in the 90s? That was the era of the grunge look, remember? Think torn jeans, oversized jumpers and lots of denim, and for a really bold look, why not add a grunge-inspired tutu in a daring colour - maybe even purple or neon green!
We do still have to remember that tutus were at this time - still - predominantly seen as the symbol of classical ballet! It would be the year the "English National Ballet" in London produced their iconic ballet: "Swan Lake" which features many different tutus. š
Even now, the English National Ballet is producing fantastic modern interpretations of the ballet's storyline with "Swan Lake", a ballet that was first premiered way back in the 1870s, becoming ever popular in modern times and attracting huge crowds. š
Speaking of āSwan Lakeā, wouldnāt that be just the ticket for a fab night out! You just have to catch it, darling! So very "ballet". And itās just so pretty with the white and black costumes of the beautiful Swan Queen - and so many tutus to admire! A real classic for the discerning tutu-lover!
Letās imagine this 1995 London Valentineās Day! Perhaps thereās a charming little cafĆ© we can sit down in - the sort of place that's crammed full of those plush pink velvets and antique chairs - before or after we have a go at a spot of classical ballet, just as a prelude to watching āSwan Lakeā at Sadlerās Wells Theatre. Imagine all the gorgeous, feathery tutus whirling around in front of our very eyes - so very romantic! And while weāre at it, wouldnāt you like a large slice of āStrawberry and Creamā cake and a glass of lemonade as well! Delicious! Maybe some āscones with jam and creamā - oh darling - what fun! Isn't this the way to do it?! Don't you agree! It is all simply too lovely to imagine, really. š
And don't forget - you must keep an eye out for all of the vintage fashions from that decade. Imagine the "tutus" of this era: tulle skirts in pale colours that just grazed the ground and had those delightful floral details; they really did complete the "fairy-tale" look of fashion back then. It really does have such an exciting look to it. And for a little bit of "real life", donāt forget all those great little "dresses", those cute blouses with the frilly details. And for a super "in" look you can't forget the "mini-skirt". Itās like stepping into another world when we visit this time, isn't it?!š
Now darling, let's hop aboard a comfy old-fashioned railway train! Itās a vintage train - no pesky wifi on this one. You know it's the type, the ones with all those beautiful old compartments for the "First Class" travellers - I mean we wouldnāt want to have to stand or even - dare I say it! "share"! Now would we? š
Yes darling, just imagine it, our ādreamā train journey through a wonderful landscape that looks like it has stepped out of a romantic film! This journey to our ballet date is very "special" with all the amazing scenery in the "picturesque" county of Derbyshire; our Derbyshire countryside with it's green fields, farms and villages just keeps our imaginations working overtime - oh darling itās just lovely! I know you will agree. We'll have the chance to relax on the train; read a novel, watch the changing scenery go by. So calm, so "unwind"! But darling, never ever - ever miss a glimpse of one of those romantic little railway stations - you're guaranteed to see one that reminds us of a scene in one of those old romantic novels! You just have to love it! The most romantic country in the world. Isn't it lovely to imagine being back in the "golden era" of travel by rail? So peaceful - nothing but beautiful countryside for the passengers! How civilised, you have to agree!
Now darlings, before I rush off for the week I need to make a confession; one I simply canāt resistā¦ I have already started my planning for āCarnival Dayā. Yes - donāt you love it - Carnival - it's simply bursting with colour and a whole host of opportunities for me to embrace the power of "pink" as well as "the pink tutu"!
You all know the saying āitās a small worldā and how true that is when you are looking to get dressed up - just like I am going to! You might say āwell what do you recommend?ā - but darling - letās leave it up to the big day; we need some magic! And - well ā I canāt tell you what my theme is but I promise I'm going to share everything with you ā so stay tuned darling; stay tuned - because weāre going to have so much fun! But what would make my dream carnival, I wonder - oh to dream, you simply have to love it. Iāll be thinking about pink tutus. What do you think, my lovely followers?! Isn't that simply "magic"!?
Iāve got to rush off, darling - another time warp for me, to continue to research my ballet tutu travels and hopefully one day I will find that wonderful "pink" tutu that I know is hiding away just waiting for me! And oh my, don't forget we're meeting again next Tuesday, for our regular "Tutu Tuesday", my favourite day in the week, where I'll be taking us all on another, fabulous trip - back in time! Oh darling, it's simply divine! š
What's coming up on "Tutu Tuesday" next week? Stay tunedā¦ And please darling - let me know all your thoughts, as always - leave a little "pink love" comment! I love to read all your wonderful comments.
Stay fabulous, darlings and I'll see you all next Tuesday. š
