#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1995-02-28
Hello my darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another #TutuTuesday and a deep dive into the fabulous world of tutu history! This week we're whisked back to 1995, a glorious year filled with pop princesses and fabulous fashion. Oh my, the memories! This week's travel by time train took me straight to Paris. I mean, who doesn't adore Paris?!
Now, I was lucky enough to catch a performance at the Opéra National de Paris, the Palais Garnier. I felt like I'd stepped right out of a ballet book! It was just divine!
But before I delve into the Parisian wonders, I must talk tutus!
This Tuesday's post is number 8514 on www.pink-tutu.com! That's 8514 reasons to celebrate all things tutus! It's the passion for these magical little skirts that drives me and allows me to hop back and forth in time - thanks to my lovely audiences at these beautiful ballet performances. They pay for the time travel costs - don't tell anyone but the price of this trip was exorbitant. It was truly the ultimate tutudledum, tutudledoo! You can almost see why I love tutu history so much. And yes, I am wearing pink - can you even imagine a ballerina time traveller wearing anything else?!
What happened on this date?!
- February 28th, 1995? That was the day the wonderful La Bayadère had its final performance of the run at the Opéra National de Paris - and I got to see it!
As always, I just have to mention some important tutus because... well, tutus!
- The Classical Tutu
- Oh, that beautiful, classic Romantic tutu.
- So elegant and graceful.
- With all that delicate tulle it looks almost like a cloud!
- And so iconic, too. It really says "ballerina!"
- The Ballet Dress
- Now the ballet dress - or as I like to call it "the dance dress," is an utterly enchanting style that emerged in the 1960s.
- What made it really different was the shape, rather than the huge circle of the tutu.
- It was designed by none other than Rudolf Nureyev, the enfant terrible of dance.
You know what?! I'm actually so inspired by the romantic tutus from the early 20th Century that I have ordered a beautiful new pale pink Romantic tutu with delicate pink satin ribbon! I can't wait for it to arrive - it's coming straight from France. I shall be sporting it next week for my blog - do be sure to visit then. I think it's important to get into that classic, elegant, beautiful vibe! I am even thinking of visiting Paris once more for the whole week, perhaps I will even get another ballet performance for funding!
Now, about the ballet La Bayadère.... it really took me back to another era. This timeless classic was performed with such passion and beauty, it had me enthralled from beginning to end. It was like travelling through time to a different dimension.
You might remember the amazing scene where the entire ensemble, those fabulous dancers from the Corps de Ballet wear a breathtaking *Romantic* tutu. * And, the lovely Soloist? The *Romanic style looked sublime, with just the right amount of drama!**
But don't let the classic tutus fool you. Ballet has its wild side. The choreography in the performance, wow! It took me back to the original performance in 1877 but it also felt as modern as it possibly could be!
Oh, those tutus are really so amazing! The history, the elegance, the movement, the colour, the story, everything. They make me feel absolutely fantastic! I’ve always said, every girl, and boy - who knows? needs a pink tutu in their lives! A big pink fluffy tutu - think Cinderella before her fairy godmother - a pink ball of swirling magnificence that transforms everything, everywhere - into a beautiful dance!
I hope I’ve inspired you to see a ballet performance today. It’s an incredible, magical experience that will bring a sense of wonder into your life. It may even bring your own little tutu out!
Have a wonderful #TutuTuesday everyone! Stay fabulous, and remember - spread the pink tutu love!
Bisous!
Emma
