TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Through Ballet History - 1995-07-25 🩰💖

Hiya lovelies! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back again with another #TutuTuesday blog post. Buckle up, darling, because today we're going back in time! 🕰️

This week, my trusty time machine has landed us on July 25th, 1995! This time, I'm not whisking you to a glittering premiere or a bustling fashion show - instead, I'm taking you to a very special place: the world of ballet history! 🩰

Now, as you all know, I absolutely adore my pink tutu (I mean, it’s practically my signature!), but I also love digging deep into the history of dance and the magnificent, iconic garment that is the tutu! 💖

So, let's rewind the clock and have a peek at what the ballet world was buzzing about in 1995…

It's the 90s, a decade bursting with energy and excitement, and in the ballet world, the excitement is definitely ramping up too! 🎉

Remember that iconic scene from "La Vie en Rose", where Emma Watson sashayed through the Paris streets in a shimmering pink tutu? Well, in 1995, tutus were already big news – think "Swan Lake", "The Nutcracker" and "Cinderella". Ballet was still a major part of mainstream culture, and everyone knew the famous tales of graceful swans and sugarplum fairies. ✨

Imagine this: 1995, the era of oversized hair, grunge, and pop culture. But alongside all the glitter and glamour, you could still see elegant, ethereal tutus being worn by iconic ballerinas, effortlessly pirouette-ing onto the world stage. And those tutus, with their layers of tulle and elegant silhouettes, they still manage to bring a sense of timelessness and sophistication. 🤩

For example, did you know that the legendary Dame Margot Fonteyn graced the stage for the very last time on this very date in 1995? It’s bittersweet to think of a legend like her, who defined the elegance of the ballet tutu, retiring just over two decades ago! 😢

I feel so blessed to be able to see this pivotal point in time - it's just another reason why I adore my time machine so much! And for a moment, let's consider that without this era of groundbreaking ballet, maybe, just maybe, my tutu obsession wouldn’t be as strong as it is! 💖

Now, where to find me this week, you ask?

Why, it's in none other than the magical, vibrant city of London! This Tuesday, I'm catching "The Nutcracker" at the Royal Opera House, in my new pink tulle tutu, of course. (Let’s just say I might’ve had a teensy bit of trouble fitting in my suitcase – but that's what fashion emergencies are for! 🤫 )

This performance is more than just a ballet – it's a tradition. There’s a unique magic about attending a classical ballet in the heart of London during the holidays, and I just can’t resist it. Plus, imagine how the shimmering stage lights will bounce off my tutu! It's practically an opportunity I can’t pass up! 💖

And the best part? I get to see all the stunning, breathtaking tutus up close, and imagine all those lovely, talented ballerinas dancing their hearts out in them. And hey, maybe I'll pick up a little fashion inspiration while I'm at it – maybe some sparkly sequins for my next pink tutu creation?! 🤩

Now, tell me, darling, what are your favourite memories of tutus? Share your stories with me in the comments below!

I'd love to hear all about them - don't be shy, my lovelies! And remember: just because it’s Tuesday, it doesn't mean you can't wear a tutu all week long! 💖🩰

Until next week,

Emma xoxo
