Tutu Tuesday: A Trip Back to 1995 - The Year of the Swan Queen!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to another edition of my #TutuTuesday blog, this time taking us all the way back to September 19th, 1995! Today, Iā€™m in my pinkest pink tutu, ready to whirl you all through the magical world of ballet ā€“ because tutus are the only way to travel through time, wouldn't you agree?

This is my 8543rd post, folks! As you know, I like to make history fun and bring the past to life for all you beautiful ballerinas out there. And believe me, there's a lot to explore. Today, Iā€™m travelling to New York City. They just LOVE ballet over there, always have, and this is the time to visit. You canā€™t escape the dance fever that grips this city and believe me, the ballet outfits in the city are divine. It was September the 19th and the sun was shining in this concrete jungle of a city and what was happening? Well, why the New York City Ballet were getting ready for a sensational season, of course!

But before we get all up in the swan lake and Black Swan business, let's talk tutus! And you all know I LOVE tutus, especially pink ones, you can probably tell from my profile pic and how often I use pink emojis ā€“ because a pink tutu, for me, just adds a touch of magic. But, why did they go pink in the first place? Well, in 1995 they started making them more and more in a variety of colours! It's not always about the pink and sometimes a splash of blue or white can look great.

Imagine for a minute: September in New York. Crisp air, golden leaves dancing in the windā€¦ oh, and donā€™t forget those New York City street performances! They've always had a bit of je ne sais quoi don't they? Anyway, on a random Tuesday like today, the 19th of September 1995, imagine seeing the ā€œNew York City Balletā€ in their iconic costumes - think fluffy tulle, elegant silhouettes. They always make me feel like I've just stepped into a fairy tale and everyone around me in New York was feeling it too. That day, you would see them doing ā€œThe Four Temperaments" and other equally amazing performances! They were such incredible dancers, twirling around in tutus and tights, just beautiful! You wouldn't see a single pink tutu though. Those weren't to be popular until after the new millenium.

Now, remember those beautiful and exciting stage performances, darlings? What made it even better, those tutus were the stars! Every single time, those ballet companies put on a real show - I was right in the audience! Even though we weren't at the big theatres, the passion, grace, and strength on display always left me speechless. It's an incredible experience to witness a ballerina on the stage ā€“ they are so talented. You'd see the dance world's most famous performers in that beautiful, vibrant city in September 1995, so it was all just so fabulous! They wouldā€™ve been looking like fashion icons, and guess what else, darlings? I took fashion inspiration from that whole period - imagine tutus with bright colour combinations like yellow, green and even blue!
You'd probably even see ā€œpointeā€ shoes and they have to be beautiful and delicate, they need to compliment those big flowing tutu skirts. There's something incredibly elegant about the whole ensemble.

And speaking of iconic dancers in New York, 1995 is all about ā€œBalanchine's geniusā€. Just hearing the names makes me think of amazing tutus, flowing and twirling perfectly as they glide through their famous dances. Remember how everyone loved the whole performance, including that stunning costumes that the ballet company always puts on, darlings? Theyā€™ve never looked better in those years. If I hadn't gone there, I would have missed it. But hey, guess what? It isn't just the performers and ballet pieces - It's all about the tutus too!

Okay, time for a little personal "Emma" touch now! A pink tutu always does wonders for my confidence and it helps me channel my inner ballerina. Remember, darling, if you think a tutu is too much then you're probably wearing one too long or the wrong kind for you. For those of you looking for some fashion inspiration: you can even put a bit of pink into your everyday wardrobe! How about some accessories with pink detailing? Maybe a cute pink clutch for going out or a stylish pair of pink heels? Pink doesn't have to be just about tutus!

Anyway, back to 1995ā€¦ Oh, how the fashions changed since then - in some good ways, in some bad ways. That being said, 1995 definitely had its own beauty. Remember when people were all about layering colours? Think those great fashion trends - bright colours, patterned shirts, that big ā€œnineties styleā€! Even fashion trends that came around then like Grunge. It didnā€™t make much of an impression on me as you probably noticed as Iā€™m a true pink ballerina, with big flowy tutuā€™s to boot! Oh, you couldā€™ve even tried finding a vintage tutu with lace to match! They just knew how to make those tutus with lace, those were a sight for sore eyes. If I was travelling from Derbyshire then you'd see a girl with those pink tutus, flowing behind me with the beautiful breeze as I head towards New York city, in a hot summer season. It's always a lovely summer here. Just imagine, all those stylish women in the 90's... all rocking a bit of pink, even if itā€™s a lipstick shade or a little accessory ā€“ that pink, my loves, was everywhere!

If thereā€™s a ballet performance in town, go to it! That's my advice. Or, go see one online! Take a few friends with you, wear a fabulous pink outfit and then head out to get some brunch! And do try to think like I do ā€“ all the best things are worth travelling for. After a few glasses of bubbly, your feet will just start dancing. Then grab a cab and just enjoy New York - remember thereā€™s never been a better way to dance through time than in a big pink tutu, and in September of 1995 the dancers definitely would have had you believing in a bit of magic - they all have that certain touch. You have to embrace the little details, like those twirling skirts in all their colours, darling.

Thatā€™s it for this #TutuTuesday blog! But, Iā€™ll be back next week with another fascinating blast from the past. Until then, remember to embrace your inner ballerina. Dance, darling!
