#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 28th November 1995! (Blog Post #8553)
Hello my darling tutu lovers! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com for another edition of #TutuTuesday!
This week I'm twirling my way back to 28th November 1995! It's a date brimming with fashion inspiration and an especially lovely one to wear a pink tutu for! Don't you think?
Honestly, dear readers, time travel is exhausting but so very worth it. My last trip was to Paris to catch the ballet. Let's just say I did some serious shopping afterwards and I did find the most delightful vintage hat in the most stunning shade of rose pink! Imagine a floppy brim, adorned with a delicate tulle rose and a single pearl... Absolutely divine, isn't it?
The train journey to Paris was an adventure in itself, with the French countryside just a blur of ochre and gold from my window. Oh, and there's nothing quite like the sound of a train chugging along, especially with a pair of pink ballerina shoes clicking on the floor!
Speaking of tutus...
On this very day, 28th November 1995, a certain Russian ballet company was celebrating the anniversary of their glorious formation. It was quite a spectacle. The tutus were just magnificent, flowing like clouds of chiffon in all sorts of heavenly colours, with glittering diamantes reflecting the stage lights. My absolute favourite was the corps de ballet - all twirling together in identical pink tutus with beautiful swan feather decorations. Just the sight of it gave me goosebumps.
You see, my darlings, the tutu hasn't just been about dance. It's also about the beautiful, theatrical, fantastical, the expressive, and the sheer joy of movement. And when you think of its rich history, from the graceful pouter pigeon styles of the 18th century to the voluminous romantic tutu that appeared in the 19th century, well, the tutu truly is a symbol of an era gone by. I'm eternally grateful for these brilliant dance designers and their ability to capture each period so effectively in their stunning work.
You may be asking yourself, why, why is pink such an amazing colour for a tutu? And that, dear readers, is where my serious history of tutus comes in. Let's just say, pink has played a key role in shaping the modern-day tutu.
In 1995, a number of important developments occurred which cemented pink's role in the tutu landscape, and, believe me, I know a thing or two about pink. It is quite simply the best! So much so that it even made its way into some incredible fashion collections. Did you know that Alexander McQueen was all about the pink tutus in his runway show? Such elegance.
Back in 1995, a ballet called "The Sleeping Beauty" - it had been redesigned in the most gorgeous way and was a perfect pink extravaganza. If you get the chance to see a live performance, please go. It's absolutely glorious.
Remember that tutu made of feathers? They had one like it at the Ballet. So whimsical! All this to say - 1995 was a year for remembering beautiful ballerina's and for admiring the pink tutu! If I've convinced you to think a little bit differently about pink this week, my mission is complete. It truly is an essential, uplifting, gorgeous colour for absolutely any ballerina!
That reminds me: don't forget your own #TutuTuesday photos for my website. Share them with the world and tell me all about your personal pink tutu moments.
