Tutu Tuesday: #8575 - A Journey Through Time! (And TutUs, Of Course!)

Hiya lovelies! 🩰

Welcome back to Pink Tutu, where every Tuesday is a celebration of the most fabulous piece of dancewear ever invented - the tutu! Today's a particularly special Tutu Tuesday, though, as we're taking a trip through time!

I'm your resident tutu enthusiast, Emma, and I'm absolutely smitten with all things pink and twirly. I've always been a huge fan of ballet, both on stage and in the studio, but what really sets my heart aflutter is the sheer artistry and grace of those magnificent, floaty tutus! They're a true testament to fashion and dance, and, dare I say, a little bit of magic. ✨

But back to our journey, darling! This week, I've decided to transport us back to 30th April 1996 - can you believe it? It feels like a lifetime ago! 🤯 To help me fund this little escapade (time travel ain't cheap!), I recently performed a rather spectacular Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House. Talk about a memorable performance! And you can bet I donned the most glorious, classic white tutu for the occasion.

As I journeyed back to the late 90s, the first thing I noticed was the sheer excitement around fashion. There was this whole grunge thing happening - think ripped denim and band T-shirts - but the "balletcore" trend that I love today was still on the horizon! And as for the tutus... oh, the tutus!

In the 1990s, tutus were really going through a golden age in the world of fashion and dance! Designers like Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Karl Lagerfeld were using tutu-inspired designs on their catwalks, so the styles were very exciting! This era was full of innovative designers who really knew how to make tutus work for their pieces. We even saw these designs making their way onto the streets! Think Britney Spears, with her famous school-girl inspired tutu look, or even the Spice Girls, rocking those playful mini tutu skirts! The '90s were an exciting era, and I'd say that the tutus definitely added a touch of whimsy and fun to it all!

Speaking of the Spice Girls, 1996 saw the release of their groundbreaking debut album "Spice" - who can forget "Wannabe?" We were all sporting platforms, glitter, and those amazing mini skirts! The world was definitely having a bit of fun in 1996! We were celebrating female power, bold expression, and, you guessed it, a little bit of Tutu Magic!

So, to help us transport back to 1996 in all its glory, we're having a bit of fun, of course!

Here's my #TutuTuesday Challenge for you:

  • Dust off those old dance videos! See if you can find some '90s hits and do a little dance along with your friends.
  • Do some "Spice Girl Style" dressing-up! Maybe find a funky mini skirt or pair of platform shoes. Remember: glitter and fun are your best friends!
  • Don't forget to rock a little pink! That’s a non-negotiable, obviously! 😉

Let's celebrate a little bit of fashion history and those wonderful tutus that still hold a special place in our hearts.

Remember to share your amazing photos with me, using the hashtag #TutuTuesday.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a train to catch! 🚄

Lots of love, and keep twirling!

Emma x
