#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 1996-07-09 🩰🌸
Hello my darling darlings, welcome back to another exciting edition of #TutuTuesday, my weekly delve into the enchanting world of ballet tutus! This week we're twirling back to July 9th, 1996. Oh my, where do I even begin? That year was an absolute dream for tutus!
For starters, I've got my adorable little pink tutu on, the kind that flutters with every little pirouette and looks oh-so-lovely with my pale pink ballet shoes. You know, it just fills my heart with joy to feel the twirly tulle around me, like a little ballerina cloud! ☁️🩰
Now, I am actually travelling right now! Can you imagine? I'm zipping through the years with my little suitcase and my trusty travel-sized tulle! And guess what? I am in… Paris! The City of Lights is bursting with glamour and artistry, a true ballet enthusiast's dream! 🗼💖
My, oh my, it was just so wonderful seeing the dancers twirling in their ethereal tutus on stage! My favourite performance, well, that's a hard one. Maybe it was a stunning production of Giselle - just imagine the airy tutus with all that delicate, floating movement. Breathtaking!
As I am here, let's delve into the world of fashion - as always, tutus play a starring role! Paris in 1996? Let’s just say, everything’s in full bloom with dreamy colours like lilac, baby blue and soft yellow. They’re like the tulle in a dreamy ballerina’s dream. 🥰🌸 You just know those outfits will make everyone look absolutely enchanting! I think it’s just perfect how I can look at historical photos and find so much inspiration for tutus in real life, and in the outfits I design myself for all my fabulous events!
Of course, with a bit of digging around in vintage shops, I'm certain I can find some absolute beauties that echo the style of 1996. Imagine, my dears, the perfectly distressed pink tutu or a white tutu trimmed with vintage lace, perfect for adding that delicate touch. And speaking of vintage…
Have you heard about the Royal Ballet's production of 'The Sleeping Beauty' in London this year? The costumes! Those amazing Victorian-era style tutus that the ballerinas were wearing just blew my mind! So lavish! I've got the entire thing written down in my little journal for when I'm designing my own range of tutus. My favourite one so far is this big tulle skirt in cream. 🩰✨
Ah, back to Paris! One thing you mustn't miss here is the vintage fashion boutiques along the rue de Rivoli - they’re bursting with tutus and lace from another era. But the true hidden gems are the markets and stalls on the quieter streets. My dears, you just have to get there yourself and discover them. You won't be disappointed!
And if I can give you one final bit of advice, my little tutu-loving friends, always embrace the power of pink! It’s the most delicate, feminine, and inspiring shade imaginable - a true tribute to the art of ballet and tutus! And don’t forget the magic of a little sparkle… those delicate diamantes and sequins? The real reason the ballet dancers’ tutus sparkle in the spotlights! 💫💖
So that's it for this week’s #TutuTuesday. Keep those tutus twirling and the hearts filled with ballet bliss. Remember to share your love of tutus and don't forget to spread the pink! We can make this a pink-tutu-clad world! 🥰
Until next time!
Love, Emma x
